So we have a designated driver lined up for heading through to Edinburgh for the Hogmanany Street Party.
I'm just wondering about parking, I know there are park and ride facilities but how is parking close to the city centre? It would be nice to be within walking distance of the car if we need to get home for any reason

Where are you comin from? And what time? Most parking meters/zones stop at either half 5 or half 6(city centre) however the edge of the parking zone (to the west) is in gorgie. 10 mins walk from haymarket which will be 5 mins to the street party.
Would recommend probably best staying away from dead centre due to tramworks and things being closed for the party.
Park on-street, just aim and find somewhere (we normally get lucky Grassmarket and/or the street that 'curls' around and down from the castle.
I'm coming in from Glasgow, probably around 7pm

Personally I'd drive to Melville Place or somewhere around there, drop the passengers off, and then slowly drive out again until you hit a spot: Rothesay Place, Douglas Gardens, Belford Road, Ravelston Park...
If you're going that early, you shouldn't have to go that far.
When we've gone we have usually managed to find somewhere around Randolph place, or Randolph lane. Melville St is quite often OK for parking. All handy for you to get back out west rather than the other end of town
