No, not some cheesy joke. Ed has started a YouTube thing in a similar vein to the Alexi Sayle one on another thread except with hills and a companion.
Was recommended to me by the algorithm after watching one of Alexi's videos and I rather enjoyed it. Relaxing viewing while having my supper. Don't know if there are any more on the way yet but be interesting to see it it takes off.
As an aside, when Rhod's talking about the luggage routine and his Edinburgh Fringe stuff it reminded me of something: back around that time he did a small BBC documentary about his EFF show that opened with that sketch and the night after it had aired he played in the small Comedy Club my sister had started at her theatre in Brecon. He was at the bar at the start of the night and I mentioned I'd seen the documentary the previous night and really enjoyed it. The look on his face as he said he'd forgot about that being shown and then quickly skulked off with an 'Oh shit' look on his face! Come his slot he walked on with the handle and immediately said something along the lines of " Well, I guess most of you saw all of this on the telly last night? Kind of ruined my thunder there! Who saw it?" When only two of us put our hands up (out of about 70) he visibly relaxed and said " Thank **** for that!" and proceeded to do a brilliant show. He even mentioned it to the staff afterwards, saying that some prick had nearly ruined his show for them. One of them asked who and he pointed them out in the audience. The person who asked who it was was my now brother-in-law and I am forever referred to as 'shall we ask that prick' whenever any of us arrange to go to a comedy night. I had a quick chat with Rhod afterwards and he completely saw the funny side of it, signed my ticket etc so he didn't take it to heart.
My little claim to fame.
That was excellent, thanks for the link.
Thanks, that was good
Thanks. Enjoyed that. Both seem like good guys.
New one with Stuart Maconie today, an hour long so should help fill the time this evening:
Ooh thanks, I'll watch that later.
They both went up Sharp Edge on the Blencathra (Terry Abraham) documentary. They had very different reactions!
Saw it the other night.
I'll watch this tonight
Rhod Gilbert was the last live act I saw before lockdown at the end of February last year.
He was talking about some devastating stuff - having a minor stroke, one of his parents dying, etc - while being very funny. At one point he mentioned driving to Llanelli crematorium, and a woman in the audience cheered. He had the audience crying with laughter as he ripped into this woman about how appropriate it was to cheer a place when he was going to bury a parent. A very funny man, and a very genuine man I think.
Yeah he is good. I've seen him come out of the disabled toilets with a group of mates at 2am on a Saturday night in a dodgy Cardiff nightclub, looking shall we say, a little bit lit up! But to then be on live telly the following Sunday evening, what a pro!
Have to say I do like Rhod Gilbert too. Certainly appeals to my sense of humour. And the plane luggage sketch is just brilliant.
I really enjoyed that
Thanks
