Hi,

Been looking through the various threads and not seeing anyone whose been investigated for ectopic beats that get worse with exercise. Anyone here?

I'm having a bit of a 'mare in that I thought I only had them at rest and not during exercise. 24 hour monitor and then a stress test have shown that they actually get worse the more I exercise and there's a concern of a blockage.

BP, cholesterol etc are all fine, I don't drink or smoke, but family have a history of circulation issues.

Anyway I'm now awaiting an angiogram and have been put on aspirin, statins, and beta blocker,GTN spray and told no exercise and keep HR below 90bpm in the meantime.

Trouble is I can't function and can hardly manage work like that. I've told the doc I can't take the statins as I was like a zombie and exhausted. I'm still awful on the betablockers (bisoprolol) too, get breathless and tight chest just short walks on the flat (was fine before the drugs) so the Doc has reduced the dose, but my consultant wants me in a higher dose. I've tried to get hold of the consultant but with Xmas and new year...

Any way to manage betablockers? are they all as bad as each other or is it just try to find one that works?

If I end up with a stent will I still need to be on them/and other meds?

Obviously until the angiogram I don't know exactly what's what but any advice or reassurance would be great as I'm
Struggling mentally with it now too tbh. I'm only just recovered from a new knee which messed up last year 🙁

Ta

Sorry I can’t offer much advice, only my experience with beta blockers. Several years ago I tried beta blockers for migraine prevention. The lowest possible dose of propranolol made me breathless so the dr suggested metoprolol but that made me so exhausted I could barely walk up the stairs. Needless to say, migraines were preferable. However, given that the 2 different beta blockers gave me different side effects, it might be worth you switching to another one to see if it’s more tolerable.

I get them mainly during exercise. They were quite bad until I cut down on drinking and got fitter. Initially my heart would go into arythmia for a short period with even mild exercise. Now it's generally the odd ectopic beat and I push it hard riding. Had stress test, 24 hour tape, ECG, ultrasound. The 24 hour test only showed the odd few during a ride. Doctor's are not concerned. Not taking any medication. It used to worry me but now I hardly notice it.

Cheers for those replies. Obviously my consultant does think mine are a concern, though maybe being a bit belt and braces until the angiogram?

Don't drink booze at all or smoke, and coffee is maybe once a day and I was doing atleast 8-12 hours a week between cycling, walking and other stuff.

I'll ask if I can try a different type of BB if he's adamant I have to have them, but I've just had to come home from work today as feel so crap.

Hmmm....I get loads after exercise, or if I drink, but I don't usually feel any when exercising. Maybe I should get tested?

Yeah I thought I only got them after exercise/when resting and was expecting to be told not an issue and don't worry, but the treadmill stress test showed otherwise with them getting worse and more frequent. I felt fine and didn't work as hard or as long as I do on the turbo.

They are very common apparently, but during exercise is when they're a concern as possibly a sign of narrowed arteries. Your call on whether to ask for testing...
