You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
We moved into a new house with electric heating a few weeks ago. I thought I'd better check out what time the tariff changes from low to normal in the morning, and it seems that both dials are going round at the same time. Is this normal? Does it mean that some circuits are on one meter and some on the other? All new to me.
I think I'd be phoning the electricity company rather than asking on a cycling forum.
We're not on Economy 7any more but still have an Economy 7 meter and I submit both readings but they just add the two readings together.
We're definitely on an economy 7 tariff. I wondered whether any of the resident heating engineers might have an idea?
Having both meters increasing at the same time, but saying you are definately on an Economy 7 tariff sounds odd. So I would ring your supplier and ask them to confirm what set-up they think you have.
The dual meters (low and normal) should be switched by signals in the feed or telechanger. This just switches which meter runs, and both feed into the consumer unit. At the consumer unit, you may have separate circuits that only connect to the 'low' tariff feed (e.g. heaters, hot water tank) whilst the other circuits connect to both the 'low' and 'normal' tariff feeds. But not all houses have separate circuits, especially not new builds. To have both meters increasing simultaneously suggests the feed is live on both branches which is strange (but possible if the previous owner came off the Economy 7 tariff but kept the old meter and wiring in the consumer unit).
With regard to hours of operation, our supply is not fixed. We find our economy tariff is off during the day, comes on between 22:30 and midnight and stays on during the morning until about 08:30, but will switch on and off during the night. It depends on the supplier.
Thanks. I'll have another look in the morning and call the provider to check they haven't made a mistake.
