work are looking at a new office, 450m2 sort of size.
don't want modular, and new build budget fitted out etc budget is about £600k, I was wondering, rather than go traditional, whether it was worthwhile scoping out a lower carbon footprint andpotentially more sustainable (lower op cost) build?
no idea where to start, so if anyone knows of companies to approach for budgets that wold be great.
Glasgow based, but guess the company providing the build doesn't have to be.
I guess if the budget cost comes in much more, and the op costs are not significantly less over a period of time then it'll be out of the window, but it'd be nice to explore options.

I can't help directly with your question except to suggest that whatever you're looking at it would seem foolish to make decisions in the absence of some view of long term op costs. It seems to me that most UK building is decided upon with a very short term outlook, which makes little sense given the thing is being built with a longer lifetime in mind. If this attitude was different I think a lot would be built with better environmental performance than it is.
Anecdotally I understand the German building industry has a different attitude.
I'm currently building a house and find it interesting that I feel like I'm going out on a limb at times with this stuff.
In terms of getting advice on what you might be looking for, products available etc then I'd suggest starting with BRE.
They do guidance, events, displays of technology and buildings and so on, including work with government which means some of these are discounted or freely available. Might be good for an overview of the sector and personally I've always found them helpful as someone with very limited knowledge of building technology!
Surely that is a discussion you have with the architect? Plenty of smallish architects around that love that sort of project.
I’m a bit surprised though that your work is considering building (and owning) an office in a city full of empty offices when it’s generally better from an accountancy perspective to rent (IANAA but as I understand it).

We have land, with workshop areas and lots of yard space, so a new build makes more sense. We had considered modular, but the directors feel that there is little residual value in modular type buildings, and that bricks and mortar will be a better investment.
Currently anything eco, from the terms of construction and operational, hasn't been mentioned, so like luket said, feels like I'd be suggesting something whacky and out there, also with the perception that anything away from standard steel framed office will be very pricy (and that most modern buildings are part necessity, part vanity).
I'll chat to the relevent working group and gather opinion.
