Just received a Triumph leather bike jacket which I 'won' on Ebay. It is as described, in almost new nick (worn 5 times). However, there is no thermal liner and I know the jacket would have had one. Seller says he was given it and it had no liner then. Given it? it is a £400 jacket, FFS.
If he refuses to discuss it further, I guess I could just suck it up or claim through PayPal on the grounds that part of it is missing. Thoughts?

Was the thermal liner mentioned at all in the description?

Doesn't matter*. PayPal/eBay will side with the buyer, no-one loses out as the seller was 'given' the jacket. Result all round!

*Why I have given up with eBay.

The thermal liner was not mentioned - however the jackets are sold with the liner, it isn't optional.
I don't want to be awkward, I'm only asking for opinions.

Tricky one. If something is second hand I wouldn't expect it come complete with everything a new item comes with as standard. Depends how fundamental it is to the function. You can certainly return it for a refund if you want. eBay will side with you

Was there a picture of the inside of the jacket?

The seller may not have known that it came with a liner when he was "given" it.

Amazingly people do give expensive gifts sometimes.... And many would not think that £400 is a lot.

There was a picture of the inside, yes. I contacted him when I realised there was probably no thermal liner, but it had been posted. Seller claimed that he couldn't remember whether it had one or not. I guess I was hoping that he'd find it somewhere or that whoever gave it to him would.

I’ve been the seller in a similar scenario, sold a bag that I bought from a first production run, turns out since then the brand added a rain cover as standard, when I ebayed it secondhand the seller was disappointed the rain cover wasn’t included, it wasn’t pictured or mentioned in the listing because I genuinely didn’t even know it existed, the seller had assumed it would be included as it now comes as standard, I offered a refund, he got pissy & neg’d me. I didn’t sell anything for a year so my feedback went back to 100%.

I think this may be the thjng. If the pics show no liner it may be that he's being upfront.

I’m a bit down on eBay these days. Its probably no different to how ot used to be but I’ve got so used to Amazon prime buying of wbay seems a needless faff.

I would see if they would have a return if you really want the liner, personally I don’t like them, I’d rather have a packable puffer jacket so I can take it off when it warms up.

@bruneep - none of those. I bought it last Sunday, 21st March.

He's offered to take it back - quite decent of him.

I would have taken it back as even though it was your fault for buying it I now know that it should have a liner so would make sure it is clear in the listing that is doesn't have one.

Your lucky he did this though as you have no right to return as you can't claim "item not as described" and private sellers don't have to accept returns (especially not for used items).
