I just sold a bike on eBay. I’ve just received notification that I won’t get the cash from eBay for a whole month!!! This on top of them taking 12% in fees (which I was aware of)

Is this a new thing? Certainly won’t be selling through them in future any time soon!

My payments normally come through within 24 hours. Do you have your payments set up as monthly perhaps? Is it the first time you've sold in a while..?

This on top of them taking 12% in fees

There are normally fee discounts of 70/80% every other weekend.. just have to spot them and opt in.

I’ve had this recently as well. I rarely sell on eBay so because I have no recent selling history, there now seems to be this rule to wait until the buyer is happy before they release the funds to you.

Didn’t realise either until the sale was complete and annoying as I needed the cash sooner rather than later!

When did you last sell something? Longest I have to wait is 24 hours and quickest was around 8 depending on what time the item sold and when the payment run was.

As above it's usually next day in the bank account.

Have you sold anything before or for a while? Was this particularly high value? Have you been through the validation process whereby eBay transfer a random small amount to your bank account and you have to verify the amount with eBay before you can continue with eBay payments?

Regularly buyer but not sold anything in a while. Value was 800 quid. I’m more annoyed as I’m out of pocket for postage for a month, a week before I’m off on my holiday.

Obviously not end of the world but if I’d been relying on that money for bills etc I’d be royally pissed

Also, surely the seller doesn’t have a month to check the item to make sure it’s fine, which is the rational eBay state for withholding pay. I’m not a cycle shop, I should be expected to offer a 30 return period. For all I know they could be taking it on holiday in that time, put 500 miles on it, then complain it’s ‘not as described’

Used to be good, till it was sold to those greedy business types who think only of the profit. So now its screw everyone we dont care.

I don’t mind them making a percentage of the sale, although over 100 quid on a 800 quid bike seems excessive. But withholding payment is bollocks given I have 100% positive feedback over past 3 years

Always wait for an 80% off fees offer.

I sold £400 worth of stuff last week and paid less than £10 in fees.

Funds are normally released when the mail tracking registers as delivered.

Sold a bike for a mate last week and the money landed in my account within a day or so. 80% deal so paid just over £10 for a £500 sale.

The month wait is for new sellers for their first 10 sales, I think thats a good idea. What happened to me and it sounds like it has happened to you is that having not sold anything for a long time I was defaulted into "new seller" profile and the payment hold applied. I complained on the chat function, had to be put through to a manager and felt like I had to explain the issue maybe 5 times, but when they could see I was an active seller a number of years ago they released the payment that day and it cleared overnight. Probably took 45 - 60 mins of back and forth on the chat service

If you haven’t sold for a while EBay hold the payment in escrow until something like 100 sales have been made under the new program, but it will release MUCH faster if you can get the buyer to leave feedback and if you’ve put the tracking reference into eBay.
