Bit of a long tale here, but what do people think I should do?

I sold my back brake which was working fine on ebay. A few days later I get a case opened against me, the seller wants 25 quid from me because he says the brake is faulty.

I replied saying I was shocked to hear this. I'd give him a full refund in return for the brake, could he give me a further explanation of what has happened.

Buyer replies back, fitted brake on bike along with a new rotor bought from else where, it failed to work, so he opened it up and there were air bubbles coming through, ie. The seals were knackered.he wanted 25 quid for fixing it.

I replied back he should have contacted me first before opening the brake up and fiddling with it. Offer him full refund or cost of new seals.

He then replies back that it was a lbs that fitted the brake, informed him that it needed a bleed and then informed him that it needed a new seal kit. So after paying bike shop for work I can see why he does not want a full refund.

I think when the shop informed him the brake was faulty he should have contacted me straight away not pay for the work and expect me to pay the bill.

I now offer 15 trying to keep it nice, and If he wants full amount he needs to go to ebay and say the case cannot be resolved.

As far as I'm concerned the brake was working fine, I offered full return, I have a very good ebay rating, first time this has happened to me.

Should I just give in and give him the cash or wait to see how ebay decides who is in the wrong?

How does ebay work this stuff out?

Any one had any similar experience like this? What was the out come?

Cheers for reading this rather long post!

ask him for a contact no for lbs and a copy of the bill, before you pay anything.

Paying for the fitting etc was his choice , you have offered him a full refund.
Sadly eBay does seem to side with buyers often.

But seems you have done nothing wrong and been vey good to offer refund
But it's not somthing I've had to go through with eBay
Only disputes I've had are postage related

He shouldn't have paid to have them repaired before contacting you, eBay wont refund him in full unless he can prove he's sent them back & you've received them.

I sold a bike a few years ago on ebay, weeks later the chap mailed me to say a bolt was missing from the forks & LBS had replaced the forks, he told me he wanted to be refunded for the price of the forks & fitting, about 70% of the price he paid for the bike, I told him, he'd had the bike several weeks if the bolt was missing, it could have fell out while he was riding it & IMO there was no reason to replace the forks, just replace the bolt, anyhow, told him to go through ebay, when the case was opened I just offered a full refund if the bike was returned & to my amazement ebay sided with me, that's the only time ever as a seller they've sided with me though.

The only thing you have to do is offer a refund, stick to your guns and just ask him to return your goods and you'll refund him.

Ebay will side with you as thats what they require in their rules.

come across to eBay as being a cooperative chap, being 'sod off no refund for you' usually means they'll side with the buyer. However, You're right I think that if you offer a refund for the return of the goods.

Just to update this thread, this case ended up going to ebay for resolution. Ebay sided with me the seller. Chap unfortunately lost out, but he was given the option to return the goods which he refused. Ho hum.

So there's a fair chance he was just trying it on then to get some cash back.
Too many shysters on ebay nowadays.

I'm glad it worked out fine, you may end up with negative feedback for the one sale, but don't let it worry you, people will still buy from you and it's wiped out after 12 months these days.

If he does give you negative feedback use your opportunity to reply carefully, again try to phrase the sentence so that you look like the positive party.

Good luck.
