You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Listed a bike in eBay collection only, cash on collection.
Out of the blue someone buys it, and pays using PayPal. They live over 6hrs away and have not yet responded to my question of when they'd like to collect. I don't see this sale going anywhere.
Frustrating as I had about 30 watchers and a couple of what seemed like keen people interested. And I had it on a £1 listing so relisting will mean giving eBay 10% should it sell on my second attempt.
Just venting..
If they have paid as you say, then just chuck it in the back of the shed and worry about it if and when they make contact.
does the buyer have decent feedback?

Very much this - I've just sold 3 large oil paintings, cash on collection, paid PayPal & as yet no other contact.. just msg them
I had the same a few years ago but the buyer turned up the next weekend from about the same distance.
However in this case I would cancel the sale and return the Paypal payment as you wanted cash on collection (presumably to protect you from a later "did not receive bike" type claim)

Even if you get this sale annulled?

Just wait for another £1 promotion? There's one this weekend.
I'll send the money back and see what if that provokes a response, and yes it's to stop the item but received scam.
does the buyer have decent feedback?
Yes, 86, all positive.
Even if you get this sale annulled?
I presume so.
Good to hear another £1 listing is due this weekend for if/when this falls through.

I'm not seeing the risk here if you don't send it? What can they claim back apart from the money they sent for a bike you still have? Personally as you have done the decent thing and contacted them I'd do as suggested and store the bike keep the cash. Would probaly send them another courtesy message in about 6 months, then sell it again if still no reply.
It's more a case of if they do collect but then claim to have not received it.
If I hold the money for now I won't spend it until the bike is gone, and I have a fat bike itch that the sale of this bike is hopefully going to scratch.
Take a photo of him with the bike next to your front door.
I'd keep the Paypal as a deposit for now, but point out that you specified cash on collection, and that's what you expect. Tell the buyer you'll refund the Paypal when you get the cash.

How did you find out?
It’s more a case of if they do collect but then claim to have not received it.
Ah, right. Yep, that makes sense. I'd make a rubbish criminal!
What timescale are we talking about? How along ago did they pay by paypal? Also how much do you care about the payment method.
I've bought stuff and collected from the north coast of Scotland when I live on the South coast of England simply because I knew I was going to be there.
Given you deselected PayPal as a payment option, how, exactly, did they get your email address to pay you? Or did you leave PayPal as an option and just put in your ad it says cash on collection?
I hadn't unselected it. Can you do that now as in the past it was fixed by default.
There is the chance they travel and will collect. To be fair they paid instantly, I replied about 3 minutes later asking when they would like to collect.
I might be wrong but it's got my Spidey sensors tingling. When I've bought anything that requires collection in the past I've contacted the seller to arrange collection.
Aye, you've been able to deselect it for a while so long as you've selected payment on collection. It was mainly obligatory because people cancel the sale when they hand over the goods/get cash rather than mark as sold in order to avoid ebay's fees.
Just have the buyer message you though ebay when they collect to confirm receipt, problem solved.
You will however have to swallow PayPal's fees.
I couldn’t deselect PayPal when I last sold something a week or so back. Despite it saying cash on collection
Buyer has made contact. They would like to arrange a courier to collect - SHERPR
Hmm..
Cancel sale and refund it is then
Have a little trust OP.
You read into too much fakenews!
Yeeeesh!
cancel and refund.
Sherpr are a specialist sports equipment courier; just make sure all contact is via eBay's messaging service including courier tracking no's and it'll be fine ..
cancel and refund.
this ^
I explained that I wasn't going to be using a courier and he's going to collect it for cash next week.
I'm surprised at that tbh!
Result.
Once it's been collected!
