I have a scalextrix set I'm going to sell on eBay. I intend to mark it as collection only. If someone wants to organise their own courier, am I right in thinking that if anything goes wrong with the delivery then it's not my problem?

TIA, paul

Someone else's "courier" turns up. You hand over the goods. Buyer lodges a complaint, "goods not received." Ebay refunds because you can't prove otherwise.

Why would you let someone arrange a courier but not want to offer as it an option yourself? You'll still have to go through the rigmarole of packaging it up, giving the Artist Formerly Known As Hermes three quid to come get it is the easy bit.

Whatever you do, make sure every transaction is done through eBay. "I'll send [my representative / a courier] because [I'm working on an oil rig / my mum is dying / I'm on the moon / my house is on fire] and will pay by [Western Union / bank transfer / in fish] because my Paypal [is disputed / has been hacked / is non-existent], please [email / fax / smoke signal] details" is the oldest scam in the book.

Cheers Cougs but the clue is in the question 🤣 if any thing goes wrong then it's not my problem, hopefully.

It's about 35 years old and unused. I intend to sell it as "sold as seen" as I have no idea if it actually works. Therefore returns not accepted under any circumstances. Hopefully by not providing transit, I can remove the chance if damaged in transit too.

There is a code for collection thing now via ebay, not used it myself mind.

In theory if the courier uses that to collect they can only get it from the buyer so you should be covered but, and its a big but, if anything goes wrong it still might be your problem and you end up out of pocket.

It's simply not worth the hassle.

Collection is collection, if you're happy to pack it for a courier, sell it with shipping, cost in the insurance and send it with insurance then if anything goes wrong it's evri or dpd's problem. You'll also likely get a much better price for the lot sold spares/repairs with shipping than you'd get even sold as OK working but collection only.

Unless they claim non-delivery.

It's either be firm and collection only, or you send yourself with appropriate insurance.

For collected items I've found Facebook marketplace better than eBay. Some stuff has been advertised and gone within an hour! You do deal with some arseholes though! 🙂

Luckily, I'm not in Facebook!

I think I'll just stick to collection only. Seems the least hassle but smaller buyer-pool method.

Interestingly, there's a used one on the bay for £150 at the moment. Mine has never been assembled, so hopefully it'll pay for my upcoming car service and MOT 😜

What the-muffin-man said.

Either the buyer collects in person with the qr code - or you send/post the item.if the buyer arranges a courier your opening your self up for automatic eBay refund.

Surely if the buyer sends the QR code to the courier and they collect and scan then it's as collected?
The last thing I sold I dropped off to the buyers sister as she lived near where my office is. She had the QR code and we scanned it.

You'd think. Thinking can be expensive. Stick with what's certain.
