Not sold anything for a while (430 buys n sells and 100%)

Sold a Leatherman, sent it. Buyers received it. EBay say item was delivered and now the buyer has 2 weeks to decide if the like it and eBay "may expect funds to be released on 28 Oct"

Is this what they do now? Just hold your cash for a silly amount of time in their account?

Think I'll stick to marketplace and gumtree.

I’ve not bothered with eBay for selling in years. Definitely easier on gumtree and marketplace.

If you don’t sell very often, this is now the way. If you contact the buyer and explain, asking them to leave positive feedback if they’re happy, this will release your funds.

It’s almost back to the old days of escrow.

Must be as I get the money within about 12 hours which is most times before I have even sent the item. Presumably they are trying to stop dodgy people taking an old account

Oh so as soon as they leave feedback the money is released? What if they NEVER leave feedback, does the cash just sit in limbo or is it released eventually by eBay after a set time??

They'll release it on the date it says. It should only be for a couple of sales then you get it sooner after that.

Unless you desperately need the money right now ebay is still the easiest way to sell anything you can post.

I usually also get funds within 12-24 hours of sale.

The first sales I think it takes a little longer.

That sounds unusual. I buy/sell a fair bit (closing in on 1,000 over the past 15+ years) and money's always released within 12 hours or less. I've tried Gumtree/FB marketplace but eBay, for any faults it has, is still the easiest, i.e. less utter twunts.

Well I've not sold much but been buying regularly just seems loads of new "rules".

I was aggrieved about the new eBay payment system initially, but now it's up and running it's more convenient than Paypal for me (as I don't need to periodically go into PP and transfer funds to my bank account).

Pretty much. I think it's all down to greed. They hold a huge amount of funds(probably millions weekly) and gain the interest off it.

I buy on a regular basis, but its been over 2 years since I sold anything, and I used to be quite the prolific seller(over thousand sales) But this new payment system has be worried that the security of selling isnt what it was so I've gone off it a bit.

Which is a shame, as I've loads of stuff, new brakes, wheels, forks and other components that if sold would go a long way to paying for other wants.

I suppose others sell quite a lot on a daily basis and not just 'businesses' but since their rule change my confidence in them has been seriously knocked and I don't know if I'll ever get over that.

I heard at a conference that Starbucks in the US holds more money, associated with their app and payment cards, than any US Bank. Mad if true.

Why would it put you off just because you have to wait 10 days or until someone leaves feedback. Surely that's a more secure system that encourages fair selling?

Perhaps. And if I had zero feedback or hadn't sold anything before, fine.

But when I've been using ebay for years, 100% feedback and bought many items recently, just hadn't sold much over the last 12 months, seems a little OTT to me.

Comparatively MP is much less of a ball ache.

I'm put off eBay.

Recently sold a full suss for £445.

Couldn't access the money for a good week.

Bike was down as collection only but the buyer insisted I find a box, wrapped it and wait for a courier. He'd paid.

Eventually I got my money:

£445 sale. Came out with £387. That's a big chunk for eBay.

Then I'm also put off Facebook marketplace:

"Wots the lowest you'll go?"

"I'll come tonight at 1800" - nobody turns up.

Stuff that's not worth my time I now leave on the front wall with a notice "free, take me away" a lot less hassle.

That's because you are not doing it properly. At least once a month I get an 80% off fees deal and last bike I sold for £400 cost me £9 in total fees. Unless you need to desperately sell something just wait until an 80% offer.

I seem to get no hassle selling on eBay and have sold over 2,000 items so guess I am just lucky...

I'm must be!

I didn't think about offers. See £1 listings occasionally.

As above really - ebay are totally clear in their terms and conditions. The fees are ~12.9% unless there's an offer and there're additional fees for promoting, selling internationally, etc. I admit that the infrequent seller holds are irritating and that their description of why is vague, but once you know it's there, what's the problem?

I never list unless there's an offer - I had to register another account with ebay as my business account never receives any offers and ebay refused to change it back to a personal account, despite it being used as a personal account for over 10 years.

Marketplace isn't that bad. You get some nutters but its easy enough to ignore them and I'd rather ignore a few doofus messages than pay fees left right and centre and then for them to hold on to the cash for 8-10 days sat in their account topping up their interest. eBay fees as well as paypal fees + unnecesarily long holding times is three bites of the apple as far as I'm concerned.

I've been in Aus since 2009 and eBay still say I'm in the UK cos "that's where the account was set up" and there seems to be no easy way of changing this.

If you've not sold anything in a while eBay defaults you back to being a new seller and applies the block on funds for your first 10 sales.

When this happened to me I spoke to them through the online chat and once they could see I was not a new seller they removed the block and the money was release start of day the following day.

Took maybe 15-20 mins on the app, you need to ask for your funds to be unblocked or released as you are not a new seller
