i have just sold some speakers on ebay.
The guy says they're for his friend in Bulgaria and he is going to arrange to send them to him.
Said he will come from liverpool to collect them (in Leeds) pay cash and send them to his friend.
They are big speakers (77cm tall) so will cost a bit to send them.
Told him i want cash on collection and that i want nothing to do with any shipping which he has agreed to.
Apart from getting fake notes is there anything else going on here?
nothing obvious, to my mind, you get cash, he take them away..
maybe ask for some identification and take a picture of that (& him) to prove it's been collected?
....item not recieved
PP/ebay dispute, you end up out of pocket.
if it's cash on collection, I'm struggling to see how he could claim it back
But if it's cash on collection how could PayPal be involved. I turned up, paid cash but didn't take the speakers? Same with EBay, they still prefer you use PayPal to avoid issues.
So you're selling a large item cash on collection, someone is coming to collect them and pay cash. I'm not sure what you're worried about here, doesn't really matter if the guy's going to send them to Bulgaria after.
Struggling to see the problem other the speakers being forcefully taken off you. PayPal can’t refund the buyer cash.
Fake £20 notes?
from experience, cash buyer turns up. some sob story not enough cash had to stop to buy fuel as you were further away than thought. Offers to pay by PP when you decline then offers you considerably less cash for item. You really want to tell him to jog on but the sniff of sale and you've waited in longer than you agreed means do you take less cash, gamble with PP or slam door in face.
I went with final option
Or from experience, the buyer arranges collection, collects it and pays.
I had a similar thing with a Denon HiFi system that a guy from Poland wanted to purchase. He paid through PayPal and said he organise a polish courier to contact me directly. I received the payment and the courier eventually contacted me and collected around 3-4 weeks later. No issues and it was a genuine purchase.
If you are worried about the transaction I would recommend creating a invoice/receipt, and getting him to sign it on collection.
Can't see any scam but not sure of the relevance of him sending them to Bulgaria. Who cares what he is doing with them once he has bought them.
The only thing I can suggest is demo the speakers working and get him to sign for them as such when he picks up. There's no comeback through PP or the like but if he does try to make a fuss through ebay you're covered that way.
Don't think it is a scam either. We've sold stuff to Poles before. They turn up in a van packed to the rafters with items various (push chairs seem to be a favourite).
Hand over the cash and they disappear. No come back.
I think a lot of vans that would otherwise go back empty are used to take back all sorts of goods that are not easily obtained in Eastern Europe, perhaps as they are not officially imported or heavily taxed.
Cheers All.
Will demo and get him to sign a receipt....and check the notes.
Thanks for the advice
