I bought some brakes from a well known bike shop on ebay but I received an older version than what was shown in the photo.
Their returns policy states "This seller accepts returns.The buyer pays for return postage."
This doesn't seem right to me, surely I don't pay for the postage when it was their mistake?

I think they would be referring to returns where there is no fault or mistake. You shouldn't have to pay for their mistake.

They pay if misdescribed. (You are right).
You pay if you change your mind etc.
