So I accidentally accepted an offer on a frame and forks I'm selling from someone in Germany. Now they are asking for my paypal address rather than just paying through ebay. I have said payment only through ebay but they say they can only pay via paypal.

I'm thinking I should just cancel the sale, as it'll cost me more to send to Germany even if they are not trying to screw me over??

they can pay by paypal through ebay EDIT - unless Germany ebay is different to UK.

Tell them to do that or do one. No benefit to you at all by doing it outside of ebay, just risks.

Yeah thats what I thought, and was just typing out a message pretty much saying that!

EDIT – unless Germany ebay is different to UK.

that had crossed my mind, but I would be surprised if it was any different....

paypal is hte default via ebay
theres no disadvantage to do it inside ebay via paypal, keeps all the records in check. easier to sort any dispute as the ebay listing is what they are buying. if its done disassociated from ebay there could be a potential disagreement on the specifics of the purchase.

Sounds suspicious to me.

If he really wants to pay via paypal could you just relist on gumtree or similar and ask for paypal gift??

Unless it was a stellar offer, which more than offests the extra postage cost, sounds like you may as well just cancel.

Yea, just cancel it, where it asks for a reason just tick non-payment (because they didn't pay), you're under no obligation to take paypal outside ebay any more than than western union, or bags of peanuts.

I've noticed a lot of stuff on forums etc being sold to buyers in Europe, I guess it's the flipside of Trussenomics, exports are probably booming even if no one can afford anything in this country.

Not any more. But it's still an option.

Do it all through eBay or not at all.

PayPal payment is an option (but no longer default) on eBay.

All payments for sales on eBay should be orchestrated through eBay, even pick up only items with the scan a code system. Otherwise your leaving yourself as seller open to risk of fraud.

Cheers for that, think I'll cancel it then.

Edit: Apparently I can't cancel for non payment until 23rd Oct...

Out of stock/damaged, buyer requested cancelation or issue with buyers address. Might chose the 3rd one!

No, pick up items should be cash then cancel the sale once both people have their thing/money so no fees or comeback, simples.

See how many times you can do that...you'll get a strike from eBay pretty quickly and threats to restrict your account. I've done it once as a seller, and a guy I bought a bike from got a heap of hassle

issue with buyers address. Might chose the 3rd one!

That's what I did and it ended up with my not being able to leave the timewaster any feedback (except positive!) and I couldn't re-list auutomatically - had to go thorough a re-posting of the listing. Then the cancelled one still showed in my sold items. Was rather annoying, but I was in a hurry to get the listing back up.
After that, I'd say, if you can, wait the 3 days before cancelling. Then you can do it all properly.

- or phone ebay help/connect to online chat (it's easy) and explain that the buyer is trying to pay outside of ebay and they will definitely sort it out for you.

I say it's easy - just remebered how I got the chat working:
Help & Contact > scroll to bottom "Contact Us" > Selling > How sellers can cancel an order > Chat with automated assistant
When the auto chat comes up - type: I need a real person
(get your item number ready first!)

My mate tried this and eBay assumed the transaction had taken place anyway outside of their system and charged the all the fees regardless.

FYI, German PP is the same as UK PP. I'm in Germany and use PP for all sorts of things. Same features and functions.

+1

Also make the pay for some form of fully recorded postage. First time I sold something overseas it "got lost" and I had to refund the payment.

Yeah, it was more the fact that they didn't want to pay using ebay, but wanted to use PP instead. I wanted them to pay using ebay. I do t care if they use PP as long as it's through ebay.

Anyway I've cancelled now.
