I've just bought some drums on eBay
£500 which is quite a bit and I wanted to pay in cash on collection. This is so I could quickly try them out to ensure they are in full working order (electronic kit)
The seller however has requested I use PayPal.
Am I better off paying via PayPal to gain some form of buyer protection or will this be covered through eBay?
I had always though eBay only covered up to a couple of hundred pounds for their buyer protection?
You'll get extra protection using paypal so good for you. If you are collecting then the seller is crazy to take PayPal as it leaves him opened to being scammed by you (not that you would, just that you could)
What nickjb says, you'll be fine but seller is leaving himself wide open to scamming
Paypal, collect them then scam him as no proof of delivery. He's out of his mind to accept PayPal for collection, but then maybe he thinks you might just be going to try the drums before deciding you don't actually want them.
Edit - unless he wants you to pay PayPal gift.
Pay by paypal. Check the drums out on collection. If they're OK then Bingo. If they're not , leave them and request the seller refunds your money. If he doesn't, file a paypal/ebay claim (I've never worked out which is best) for non delivery of said drums. Without proof of delivery you should get your money back.
This may take a few weeks so if you need the cash to buy another set you could be stuffed...
Ok cheers for the advice all.
