eBay...again.
Just over a week ago I sold a double bed and mattress on eBay. The guy asked a load of questions before the auction end which I dutifully answered and he ended up paying far more than I was expecting. He paid promptly by PayPal and we arranged a time for him to collect. So far so good....
He turned up in a hatchback and we just managed to squeeze in the bed frame so I agreed that he could come back in a few days with a van to collect the mattress.
Since then nothing.
No answer to several emails and ebays help system only allows me the opportunity to cancel the entire auction and refund him all his money.
Any ideas?
I just want the mattress gone from my hallway. And the council will charge me £25 to collect it. eBay. Never again. Until the next time.
Based on what you’ve put there I’d be checking the local news reports for RTA involving overloaded vehicles!
Beyond that, not a clue-give it a bit longer and then issue a deadline I guess.
Deadline issued.
I’ve bought and sold hundred of bike related items on eBay and not a single problem. Every time I sell an non bike bit it turns into a right ball ache.
Never accept payment by PayPal for collections - there is no way of proving the buyer has collected it so PayPal issue a refund. I got stung for a decent amount because of this.
It's in PayPal t&c's
If i wanted a double bed frame.. but not the mattress.. (and had loose morals..) i'd turn up in a hatchback the mattress couldnt fit in and take the frame.. and never be seen again!
theres always a chance something has happened to them too.. or its ye olde paypal scam..

It might be in paypal's T&Cs but when your listing on ebay, when you've set the item as collection only, it still offers PayPal payment by default

Yes, but how would you sleep at night?.... ahhh I see.

Is this not old news with the 6 digit confirmation code system now introduced?
RE the OP - did the mattress have.....er.....signs of use? If he didn't like what he saw and was face with throwing good money after bad to hire a van to pick up something he'd rather not use I think I might go quiet too.
Or was he a young'un? Surprisingly high minimum age on some van hire places.

Apart from using the functionality that eBay have added so you can scan code from buyer when they collect. Keep up 🙂

News to me!👍
Is this not old news with the 6 digit confirmation code system now introduced?
How new news is that? I've bought stuff collection only in the last few weeks and theres been no apparent system offered by ebay for the collection
Just checked back through my eBay and PayPal messages and there was no verification number or code provided.
Anyway, I think the guy doesn’t want the mattress but can’t be bothered to send me an email telling me so.
How new news is that?
It's been available for a few weeks. When you buy something for collection, the buyer is messaged a QR code & 6 digit code. The buyer goes into the sold item details and selects the option to scan collection code - same menu as feedback, cancel sale etc...
As for the OP. I suspect the buyer has got enough of the bed that they actually want.
Offer him £10 or £20 refund for the mattress and keep the email trail if he agrees? Fly tip the mattress (kidding, obvs). Freecycle or there may be a local charity will collect?
At least they collected part of it.
Recently I've sold
1) a Kokua balance
bike, paid 2mths ago and never collected.
2) antique seat/bench. Listed at £130, buyer offered £200 and paid straight away despite requesting cash on collection. Buyer in London, bench in Manchester. 2+ weeks later I'm still waiting to hear what their plan is.
Bike will be re-sold when 90 days are up
Is it the buyer or seller that instigates the code thingy for collection?
eBay sent the code to the buyer.
The seller can scan the QR code in the eBay app from the buyers phone screen or enter the code manually.
