Helps people sell tools they've nicked.
Or put bricks in them and sell again on ebay, with weight to confirm.
I reckon it's the 'nicked' explanation.
Cats are increasingly demanding and specific nowadays about which boxes they’re prepared to sit in

Condition: For parts or not working
If you had a damaged Makita DTM50Z box you would be bloody grateful to get parts.
Just be grateful it is empty, people sell any old shit in jars these days.

What else would you put in a jar? Weirdo...
Description is lacking so I’m out
I like the idea that you could buy it to upsell the tool you nicked. Criminal mastermind required for that though.
I reckon a bunch of pissed up mates egging each other on to sell the most stupid thing they can think of? A sort of reverse pissed up ebay game. Hangs head in shame over the bidding war I got involved in for 'Billy the singing bass', encouraged by drunken mates.
Dare I ask the seller a question?
Sometimes its insurance fraud - either wholly false claims or people who've had a real theft looking to pad out the claim a bit - if you're putting in a claim insurers may ask for evidence you had the stuff you state has been stolen - so someone people collect (and therefore some people sell) empty boxed for tools, phones, laptops and so on
I’d say we ought to bombard with stupid questions for the seller!
Does it fit a DeWalt?
Dare I ask the seller a question?
Have you seen the sheer volume of empty boxes listed on eBay?!? There are literally millions! When I snagged a ps5 quite early on, boxes were going for £50 quid or so... And boy was I tempted! 😁
Will it be sent in a bigger box? Great it you need a box that's slightly larger then you can sell this box collection only. Win win.
Well, there is a bid on it. 🤷🏻♂️
Better than the delightful people selling photos of things, PlayStations, Xboxes, Phones and so on.
Like a precursor to NFTs i guess.
Selling stuff ‘with the original box’ can get more money than selling an item ‘loose’ - perhaps by more than the cost of buying the matching box separately and putting them together - perhaps there’s a market for it and the seller knows it (is my guess) - they don’t seem to be hiding that it’s a box only.
I say this as a mate bought (and sold) individual lego pieces and boxes, rebuilt the entire sets of high-value sets from the constituent parts and made good (ok ish) money - there’s a lego ebay site (brick link) etc so it could be similar
There is a bloke selling a box from his Canyon near me, he wants £25 for an empty box!

How much does a new bike box cost on its own? If you need one... second hand will do nicely.
Dissapointed that teh seller wont post the empty box to me in Germany....

Nothing, whenever I've sold a bike and need to courier it I pop into my LBS and ask, they are only too happy to get rid of them.
I keep boxes for years “just in case”.
A couple of years ago I sold my Nintendo 64 complete with original box and leaflets. The CEX staff crowded round to have a look as the box looked virtually new and certainly upped the value. They didn’t even advertise it, they sent an email to a few known clients and it was gone the next morning.
Anyone need a box for an iPhone? I have one for a 3, a 3G, a 4, a 5, a 6 and a 7 😉 the boxes for the the 12, 13 and 14 are not for sale 😀
I once saw someone on ebay buy an xbox box for 200 quid! It was just a box not an xbox in a box or an xbox.
it was an ex-xbox box!
