heard horror stories and people opening up disputes for items not received after collecting in person. How do I cover/protect myself with not having proof of postage etc?
write a receipt and get them to sign etc, take photos?

I would have thought a signed receipt with a good description should suffice.

Make out two receipts, one for you, one for them, signed collected and goods as seen. Cash payment, not paypal.

I would expect him to bring a copy of the email he sent me to prove it was him. (Some stories about people turning up, then claiming it wasnt them who collected).
Also collect at home or elsewhere? they have a high (1000+) ebay rating so probably shouldnt be too concerned?
Get them to log on to Ebay on your computer and do the feedback before they leave 😉

IME folk who try to make collection arrangements before the auction has ended rarely win.
Take a view based on how valuable the item is - oh and if they are from Dundee, good luck with them actually turning up.

I had made the assumption that it was a cash buy as it's being done in person. Silly me.
If they don't use paypal to pay you, they can't open a dispute because as far as paypal are concerned, they won't have paid you. Similar deal to paypal gift, no cover as it's not for buying things.

With PayPal a payment , they will get a refund and you are screwed.
With cash payment, you can tell them to jog on

What mikewsmith said - get a photo of the buyer with the item in question. I've doen that before, and if they're reasonable then they ought to agree.
Then you'll only have to deal with them telling you it's "not as described" via eBay at a later date.

It's quite a well known scam that they win an item, pay via paypal but then e-mail you saying that they will be "in your neck of the woods" so can they come and collect it in person. They turn up, take the item away, but then raise a complaint that you haven't posted it. Paypal finds in their favour because you are unable to show them proof of delivery.
The main thing to look out for on "buyer collects" auctions is that people sometimes try to re-negotiate at the point that they come and pick it up. Make the point that they are just picking the item up that they have purchased.
