So, if you want to make an offer you now have to submit payment details in case the seller accepts now. I can see how it saves the seller getting the run around but I'm not totally sure I'm ok with eBay holding loads of people's details 'just in case'. Is it just me?
I'm ok with it... They do it through Paypal, which they've already got... so is it really that/any different ?
Don't think this is particularly new? IMO, they probably had too many people taking the piss. i.e. make an offer then decide whether they actually are serious or not based on the response (or even re-submit a lower offer from another account!) If you don't want them to hold your details then just don't use the service? But I'm not really sure what the problem is?
Good, if it stops morons making offers and then deciding they don't want the item after the offers been accepted then I'm all in favour.
I wish they’d add similar to Buy It Now. Immediate payment would deter the idiots.
Hopefully that's what they're working towards. Ideally no one can click 'buy it now', 'make an offer' or submit a bid without payment details saved in their accounts, then automatic payment at the end of the auction.
It's a seller controlled setting IIRC. You tick a box to require immediate payment
I don't see an issue, if I made the offer I am obviously happy to buy it at that price. Saves me a step to go in and pay if they accept the offer.
Slightly off topic, had my own eBay muppets y this week. Quite an old but very heavy sewing machine, clearly stated collection only.

Buyer wins it then asks me to package it so they can arrange a courier. I decline, because I don’t want to, so then then tell me they have a friend who can pick it up.

Had to cancel the sale. I do think eBay should penalise muppety somehow, perhaps lock their account for a month.
If you get the collection code of them it doesn't matter what their mate does with it
I made an offer on a buy it now item. It was at £94 and I was happy to pay that, but the make an offer was there so I thought why not. £90 offered and all payment details done. Counter offer came back at £93.50! Which although agreed to made me wonder wtf was this an option in the first place.
You could have declined it and re offered 90. It's a game to play

I've had a buyer come back with a lower offer before 🤷
Them - £65 offer (on a £80 item)
Me - £75
Them - £60 (!)
Me - (thinking they made a mistake) £75 again.
Them - £60 (with the message "that's my final offer")
Needless to say I declined.
clearly stated collection only.
I even put in Bold capitals in the description "Collection only, no couriers mis be picked up personally by buyer"
Still get asked if I can send it and a few weeks ago someone bought something and then asked me to send it to them.
I should just be able to keep their money as real auction houses do if you win online but never collect as they just waste my time, having to cancel, re-list etc,. just because they cannot read the fact it states collection only and then makes it clear in description if they missed it in the listing.
The new immediate payment option has saved me from most of the muppets on my eBay sales.
best thing eBay has done in ages

eBay adds this automatically on some listings. You can't remove the option. I only found this out recently when I started getting offers on a few items.

I use an online industrial auctioneers sometimes and just to bid you have to lodge a deposit with them

It's a while since I've listed but from memory it box you have to uncheck when you list non auction items but after a certain amount of time has elapsed it seems to add the offers again. Its kind of fruitless becuase the sort of people who would make offers then not buy using the 'make and offer' button will just do the same thing through DMs instead 🙂

You have to do it on property auctions now. That's can be hefty chunk of money, especially if you have a few options to bid on as you have to put down a deposit for each one!
Yep, a car auction I was watching a few weeks back wanted £500 deposited (in a hotel deposited sort of way) before you could bid.
