I've just sold a frame on ebay and buyer has paid but ebay have put the money on hold for a month

It says the following

Because you have a limited selling history on eBay, your funds will be on hold until 25 Jul. This helps us confirm that the buyer does not have any issues with the order

Yet I have sold over 500 items, 12 of which have been in the last 3 months and they were not cheap items

So why have ebay started doing this?

It's not new but a bit sporadic. Once the frame is delivered (providing you load the tracking info up) and the buyer leaves feedback the money gets released. You won't have to wait till the 25th July

My wife sold a brand new unopened laptop on eBay recently. Buyer claimed the screen size was not as described (ie different from the manufacturers spec). eBay sided with the buyer. We’re considering legal action against eBay to recover our losses.

Just give them a call, sounds like their algorithms have put you in this position & shouldn't take much to sort out.

I've never had a serious problem selling on eBay, but recently had a winning bid from someone newly registered and 1 of 2 feedbacks was negative for selling fake designer goods.  In addition they hadn't asked any questions which is a red flag on itself for the item I was selling and it's a difficult/expensive item to post.

As the auction was close to finishing there is no way to prevent the sale. The buyer could literally tell you they are going to scam you but eBay just forces you to continue with the transaction.

I had two options, get someone to outbid them, or ask them to cancel. So I told them it was damaged and no longer available.  Their reply just backed up my suspicions that they were going to claim it was damaged or miss described on arrival, very blunt and accusatory and no sign of disappointment or asking for further details of the damage.

Had a stressful few days waiting to see if they would pay (if they did it would have cost a lot in final selling fees) but thankfully they didn't, so as day 4 clicked over I was able to cancel for non payment.  I won't be using eBay for anything valuable again, even the settings to filter out riskier sellers are very limited.

I've got £85 on hold. No idea why, haven't sold anything for years. They admitted that they took it by mistake but they can't possibly give me it back because they don't know that I am who I say I am.

I've been on eBay for 13 years, I've got perfect feedback and I want the money returning to the same account which they mistakenly took it from.

Absolutely no joy whatsoever. Apparently it could take up to 90 days and I'm still waiting for it.

In done with eBay it's a massive PITA sometimes.

I had that recently when I sold a £900 bike. Although I have sold bikes ok on there before - they did hold the money for the full duration this time. I got positive feedback within a few days but it still wasn’t released for a month.

Nice little interest earner for ebay!

eBay ALWAYS side with the buyer. If ever faced with a return take it back and refund. You won't win, ask me how I know..

Cheers for the replies

Will wait and see what happens once the frame is delivered next week and feedback is left and go from there
