I've watched a few items on eBay and noticed some odd bid patterns.

E.g. the minimum bid is £250.
Bidder 1 bids £250. A bit later I look and now I see

Bidder 1 265 April 14 9am
Bidder 2 260 April 14 830pm
Bidder 2 250 April 14 830pm
Opening bid 250

So bidder 1's original bid has disappeared, bidder 2 appears to have bid against himself (except 1 increment is £5 so I assume bidder 1 bid £255 in between and it too has disappeared) and bidder 1 appears to have outbid 2 before 2 even placed their bids.

Is this normal for automatic bids? I thought all the bids were supposed to show?

Is there a secret to finding out what the other bidders maximum automatic bids are (by trying but not confirming bids or similar?)

Thanks.

Bidder 1 bid max of £265 or above. The pattern shows that their earlier bid is still the high bid (eBay has automatically outbid bidder 2 as bidder 1s max has not been reached).

Thanks, Nixie

Is it usual for bidder 1's older bids to disappear? Is that a new thing? I'm sure you used to see all the bids

The item only registers 2 bids, even though there are clearly more. I guess they count each maximum bid entry as 1 bid, no matter how !any times it jumps.
