Ebay classified ad for a car - Bad idea?

I am selling my 'interesting' car that I WILL NOT advertise on here as that is against the rules and I don't want to upset the Mods (again). There is a Facebook group that specialises in 'interesting' cars and they are all listed as eBay classified adverts. It seems to cost £19.99 to place the advert, £2.99 for gallery plus and 49p for a subtitle with no other charges or fees when it is sold.

For = Cheap and wide market.
Against = Scare stories about auctions but few real facts that I can find for the classifieds.

Anyone done this for a car before?
Anything I need to worry about beyond the normal Nigerian princes offering me ££££?

Used to use classified adverts on eBay to sell land rovers when I was doing that as a business.

Being a classified advert no one can actually do anything weird with it, bid etc.

Basically, I never put a phone number on the listing,l, or in the details, lots of words, nice photos and a link to a shared album of extra photos.
Also I never put a best offer on the classified advert. If they're genuine and view it, they can haggle then.

I treated it is a cheaper version of autotrader.

People genuinely interested then have all the information they need and generally don't then ask lots of questions, they just ask to come and view.

If someone is interested they'll make the effort to message you through eBay for your phone number. That eliminates the majority of the chancers.

I found that the first person who actually viewed, bought the vehicle.

So you may not get loads of "interest" but the interest you do get is genuine and may lead to sale.

Have sold a few cars that way and it does seem to be a bit better than an auction.
One thing I always say is that I won’t accept any offers without them viewing the car, which seems to weed out  some of the chancers and dreamers.

How can it be a bad idea? Its a massive market of potential buyers

I've used it and it's fine. As above just use the eBay message facility.
Autotrader was more or less the same price when I sold my van but has the advantage of issuing a temporary phone number on the advert that forwards to a phone of your choice and then disappears when the advert is closed. It worked well for me.
Just decide which one of the two targets your intended market best.

I've done it by auction and it wasn't a particularly good experience. I think if I was ever to do it again I'd do it as you're considering, a classified ad or something.
I had a Mondeo Estate which I'd run to 185k and was worth about £500. I put it on auction, had a couple of people view it during the auction and was in contact with a guy who was interested. Towards the end of the auction I had a message from an account with zero feedback telling me to end the auction and they would pay me £450. I politely declined. They then out of spite bid £1000 to effectively kibosh my auction.

eBay classified is safer and cheaper than the usual categories.

You would normally be selling in person rather than using a courier.

Make sure your 'interesting' vehicle is in eBay motors as a classified. I had a big debate with eBay as I sold a horse trailer that eBay pretty much forced me to list in an equine category, however all other trailers would go into eBay motors. As a result my final selling fee was hundreds of pounds... After lots of reasoned debate they refunded the selling fees thankfully. (I hadn't realised it didn't go in as a classified)
