Sold a Road bike on eBay over a month ago (32days)
No issues, properly boxed up, everything working.
Just had a message from the buyer to say the cassette isn't working and the rear wheel won't freewheel.
Now this is rubbish as it was all fine when sent, so he coukd have knackered it in the 32 days he has had it.
He has asked "for a solution"
So wwstd??

He has asked “for a solution”

Take it to a bike shop and pay them to fix it. (him, not you)

Probably ignore the question all together. It’s his issue now.
If he somehow manages to push for a refund then of course he can pay to send it back

Well I've told him to take the rear wheel to a bike shop but I have asked for the details of the shop so I can speak to them myself. If it is a genuine issue I may offer to pay towards a repair. If he's trying it on he won't bother. Or that's my thinking anyway.

was that before or after you read any of the advice you just asked for ? 🙂

how do you know what wheel they’ll have taken to the shop. You’ve just offered to pay to repair or replace any old piece of shite.

Has the buyer opened a case or just emailed you?

"Buyers can open a case within 30 days of the estimated delivery date and this case is a defect for a seller."

If they haven't opened a case just ignore them as once they get past 30 days which I guess is anytime now they can't open a case. They have much longer on Paypal but now Paypal payment go to eBay rather than you I am not sure how that works?

I had a similar chancer contacting me after 60 days saying brakes weren't working.

Basically told him to jog on after sage advice on stw.

Agree with Keeley, has he raised a case on eBay or just emailed you?

I posted before but maybe Origin stamp https://originstamp.com might help.
Tamperproof video/images date stamped when you packed it, proving all was fine/working/undamaged

Its a bit of a faff but it can't be changed after it is created with Blockchain witchcraft.

As mentioned, ask for a video of the problem, or real time whatsapp.

Just a message via eBay, no case opened. Hasn't replied to my offer anyway so we shall see if he gets in touch again.
If it's genuine I don't mind helping.

Unless you sold it with a warranty you are just causing problems for yourself. You've no idea what he's done with it since he's had it, better to stop giving him any suggestions beyond "I'm not a mechanic, take it to a shop"

If you want to help, tell him to post the problem on a public forum like this.

Just a message via eBay, no case opened

Will be too late to open case but watch out for PayPal as they have a much longer time (3+ months IIRC).
A buyer raised a case in PayPal 3 months after buying claiming not as described. Was a brand new bottle of Orange Seal sealant and he said it wasn't right as it should be much thicker when putting in his inner tubes. He clearly thought it was Slime and I had to send him videos of someone pouring Orange Seal and spend an hour of time with PayPal so all in 2-3 hours of time wasted. Can be very annoying to say the least.
