I bought a pushchair travel system on eBay last week as we are expecting baby 2 in a few weeks. It was a collection only item, from the middle of nowhere so it ended up a good deal - 100 quid for travel system including car seat and all attachments etc (probably 800 new).
Collected it and paid cash.
One of the parts to clip the chair to the frame was missing (explained on advert) so bought this separately. When the part arrived it appears the pram ( a quinny buzz) has quite a wobble from the main seat, manageable, but still annoying. Also this particular travel system has an auto open design where you move a clip and the hydraulics open the pram.
Unbeknown to me at the time of collection, this didn't work, it seems like the hydraulics are faulty and you have to really pull the thing apart to open it. I can manage it, but it's tricky and I can see that my wife will struggle to do it when out.
Contacted the seller, they aren't interested, saying I should have tested it when I collected and it worked fine when they had it.
It's broke, I haven't broke it, it must have been broke when they had it. It's annoying someone would sell something that's broken like this.
As I paid cash on collection there doesn't seem a way anymore to complete the transaction through eBay saying cash. So now way to sort out a refund, short of just giving negative feedback do I have any other options?

Try eBay but I would say the seller is right. Should have checked it. If hevwon' t play you have the battle.

I'd relist with the fault and get rid of it, you won't lose much. Not worth mucking about with baby stuff, you'll be busy enough with the baby to faff! Oh, and neg the bugger.

You could try contacting ebay customer services, but I don't think you will get far.

Have you tried contacting the manufacturers/importers customer services? Don't tell them you got it second hand (maybe it has been sitting in the loft since no 1?) and maybe they have a repair service - often they do and aren't that expensive.

Sadly, you had the opportunity to inspect when you collected and didn't avail yourself of that opportunity. The onus is in you when collecting to inspect.

From his point of view, you inspected it when you bought it and went away happy, now you're claiming it's broken.

Also, you bought a second hand pushchair at a (very) second hand price. Have you looked into getting it fixed? Probably still cost a lot less than £800...

The cost is irrelevant if it doesn't work though. I understand I should have noticed but I didn't know how the thing worked until I had purchased the separate part and put it together. I'll suck it up and try and get another.
I am just annoyed as it must have been like this when it was sold and it annoys me that someone would sell something advertised as fully working when it wasn't.

You should still be able to open a claim even though you picked it up.
Can try The "not as described" route but either way open a dispute with him as it'll block his account for now.

This is one of the many reasons people do cash on collection auctions. Seeing as they've got your money you've got an uphill battle to fight trying to get your money back without going through eBay (and the interminable back and forth), and even then, without going to small claims court you'll not be able to get your money back easily.

In your shoes, I'd give negative feedback, check how much it costs to fix. It may be something that the buggy vendor fixes with a service. If it costs too much just relist and move on. Life's too short, and as others have said you'll have bigger things to worry about once the baby gets here.

If the fault wasn't obvious without the missing part, it's quite possible the seller didn't realise either. If it was advertised with a missing part, it was effectively "not working", and so you take a chance on what else isn't working. I guess that's why it was cheap. Hope you can get it fixed.

I'd have thought the main one was to avoid ebay fees - or is this some "legitimate" form where they still get their slice ?

If you've cut them out of it, I suspect they'll do the same to you

Does this even register as an ebay sale ? If not then you can't even give neg feedback can you ?

As others have suggested, first thing is to check it's actually registered on ebay rather than cancelled. I bought CoC and the seller cancelled to save fees. I guess if you tell ebay it might cause them annoyance, but hard to argue against sold as seen, you had the chance to check it out and knew it wasn't in great condition.

We got ours repaired for the same problem.

Contact Dorel and they will sort it out.

We paid £35 I think including return postage. (Gas strut repair/replace)
