Are there any downsides to this for me?
Buyer is in Austria or Hungary, item (worth £165) would be sent via ebay's global shipping programme.
I can't see how it would make me vulnerable to being scammed.
Bank transfers can be re-called, i never thought they could but we looked into it at work and turns out they can.
However there would be a formal process which would involve proof of delivery etc.
Answer to the question, Can't really seeing it being a problem plus it's not a massive amount.
I wouldn't unless you're happy to lose the amount. Why not PayPal (proppa not gift)?
I'd rather have a payment by bank transfer than PayPal.
It's an odd one, I had to nag the buyer to pay.
They have 16 positive feedbacks over a year or more and it looks legit.
Just when something's a bit different to normal it makes me suspicious.
It has been known for a cheque to be payed in, looks like you have funds and then cancelled, PayPal offered more safety.
The only thing I'd slightly worry about is giving out my bank account details. Perhaps if you have an account you don't use seperate from your main bank account I'd use that instead.
If they are sending you gbp from abroad then it'll come as an international payment. Once that's hit your account it shouldn't be possible to recall it as you normally get value at the same time it's cleared. Maybe see it hit the account, then ring your bank and check they've had the funds from the overseas bank before sending the item. Some banks may credit you when they get the initial Swift MT message but then not get the funds / full MT and take the funds out of your account again. Think they get the Swift mt103 message first, then a Swift MT202 cov message after - but don't quote me on those numbers, that's just off the top of my head.
Sounds like you have doubts. If so, I'd not go through with it.
Global Shipping program requires payment by Paypal. End of story.
If it's not paid for by PayPal, you're not using the GSP.
I always thought it was safe, but one risk is that they can set up a direct debit with your details.

Thanks, this appears to be correct.
No German short-haired pointers for me then.
🙂
Ask them to send it via TransferWise. The exchange rate will be better than the bank or paypal, and any funny business involved won't get past Transferwise.
It's cheaper for the buyer and cheaper for you. Use this as the reason. If they demur then cancel the sale.
All you'll need to give them is your IBAN number.
I didn't think they could be easily recalled. I also don't see the risk above most things as cheques, your debit card etc all display your sort code and account number. PayPal seems to negate those risks but there are some negative experiences from buyer protection. I'd have taken BT over PP so will follow with interest
