Hi,
Common issue on the forums no doubt 😆
I recently sold an electrical item on ebay.
The seller has had said item for about a week now, all delivered OK.
The chap has filed a dispute because the item doesn't work apparently.
This is odd because A: I wouldn't sell something that doesn't work obviously and B: I checked it worked again before i tapped the package up....
Now something could have happened in the post i guess. But what is the best way to proceed so that i don't get screwed over ? Im sensing it's a sense of ive changed my mind and im going to loose out.
Get him to return the item at his cost then sell it again if it is working
Is it possible it got damaged in transit? if so get buyer to send it back and claim off the courior/RM.
did he contact you before opening a dispute? best bet is to get him to send it back & refund when you've received it, ebay/paypal will only refund him if you don't, keep everything polite as ebay can see the discussion
No contact from him just opened a claim saying it doesn't work apparently.
just reply to the dispute saying send it back for a refund once its received, I'd bet he doesn't send it back, I have this quite a bit when selling used hard drives, all tested & packed up well, they are received, then dispute is opened hoping you'll say "I'll send another one" always say the same thing, send it back for a refund, but they need to make sure it's recorded delivery or you'll never receive it
99% of the time ebay side with the buyer, so if you're as helpful as possible & he doesn't return it then they'll side with you.
If it has been damaged in the post, you'll have to try to claim from RM, good luck with that 🙂
Do you have any way of identifying it being specifically yours? It's been known for buyers to swap for their broken one and claim a refund.
Have a look through his past feedback / items he's recently bought through advanced search see if theres a trend....
Check its yours if you can. I sold a Humax DVR, buyer filed a claim saying it didn't work. When i got it back it wasn't mine as the one i sold had a western digital hard drive inside it and the one i received has a seagate!

Waste of time now a seller can't leave negative or neutral feedback. Everything is geared to protect the buyer - sod the seller! 👿
I had a guy buy my go pro. Same story as you, all working until a week after he received it. Sounded suss as he had waited a full week to tell me ot was not working. He asked for a refund. I refused and suggested the first of all he try a firmware upgrade, then if that didn't work it could have been damage in the post and in which case he could claim against the carrier as it was insured.
The winning move for me was when he agreed it was probably damaged on transit. So I offered him the details by which to claim against the post office. Nothing from him for a week then an email saying the firmware upgrade worked, it was all fine and sorry for bothering me!
Lesson? Don't just rollover and offer refunds at the first sniff of a problem.

You can see the items he's been buying and selling if they are similar or if there are positive feedback comments with more details it gives some good clues. I've had a couple try this and it's dead easy to see they've probabbly done it before.
Or equally you may see they've bought the same item for spare/repairs a few weeks earlier which maybe the one you're about to recieve back as yours returned...
Whatever you say the feedback system no longer works to find bad buyers only bad sellers which makes it very difficult to know how 'safe' your sale is. You simply don't know if they have 'probably done it before' - how far back do you look back, we're not all bloody detectives.
Looked into this issue more...
Buyer has several feedbacks regarding trying to fraud people and lie to them regarding very similar items....
Still waiting for him to send it back to me.
On another note however!
Because i have an open case on ebay, i can't pay for anything with my paypal account!? Any way around this because i've made a ton of purchases that need paying.
