I sold an item on ebay 4 days ago for £70.

Did not paid thhe day of sale, which tbh happens most of the time, so, send off an email invoice a day after the sale.

2 days latter, today I get this:

What would you do?

I told him/her & to send me a cheque, postal order, etc instead then & got this back!

I guess they are trying to back out of the sale?

How long do ebay take if I go down the resolve route, will I have to wait a month before relisting the item?

Seems perfectly reasonable to me, want to pay via CC, if they've got a PayPal dispute they can't process new transactions, there's no other way of you accepting CCs.

Not a huge issue IMO - either contact the second highest bidder/do a 'second chance offer' or re-list.

Just be cool about it and relist. Life's too short!

Can you do a second chance offer? Sounds to me like he can't or won't pay, and seeing as there is a claim against an item he has sold he doesn't sound like a reputable ebayer anyway.
E-mail him, give him a reasonable time to respond, and explain you are going to relist or second chance.

Personally, think I'd just relist it or offer it to the second bidder if the amount is acceptable - pain in the neck; I doubt paypal\ebay can force him to pay can they?

you can re-list straight away, if you mutually agree not to complete the sale you will get your fees back!

If you cancel the transaction, you get the final value fees refunded. Quickly.

For the sake of a couple of quid it may be the path of least resistance.

I think if you cancel the listing and the buyer agrees then you get your fees back. Or just raise the "payment not received" option. I think it takes 2 weeks unless, again, the buyer agrees that he/she isn't going to pay.

Don't get relisting and second chance mixed up. Relisting is basically selling the item again but basically using the same description (say if you'd had 2 of the same item) to save you typing. 2nd chance gives the buyer who missed out a chance (you can select a number of them) and you'll get charged listing fees anyway as you would have done if original buyer had paid.

Personally I very rarely take up a second chance offer because it uses your maximum offer (rather than a lower price you might have got it for) and always smells of a bit of shill bidding (i.e. he's got a mate to put bids in to jack the price up).

You could try logging into paypal (not via ebay) and just sending him a money request. Its quite likely paypal will still prevent him paying, but worth a try. Just be aware that neither of you will benefit from any of the protection they offer.

He could just sign up for a new PayPal account and use that to pay you
I have had 2 accounts in the past after. Similar dispute put a freeze on my original one

It could be legit, paypal's dispute process is a wee bit demented. But personally I'd be watching the timescales for a non-paying-bidder very closely, make sure he knows what the timescales are... Shame to give him a strike if it's not his fault though,
