eBay again! Is this a scam?

My son is selling 2 pairs of new trainers on eBay so has created a brand new eBay acccount & listed the shoes last night. Within an hour he had an offer for both pairs from a buyer with an account opened in 2017 but no feedback at all. The price is similar to other pairs listed so wasn’t listed too cheaply.

Any scams he should be looking out for here?

Accept offer and only ship to registered address. Don’t be tempted to respond to any requests to ship elsewhere etc after the payment has been made. Send recorded delivery.

...and take photos of them in the packaging / add some hidden identifying marks

(The obvious scam is that the buyer says that they are not as described and ebay decides to refund them. What gets returned to you is some old scabby set of trainers and ebay don't want to know.)

There are loads of examples on Youtube - this one gives you an idea of what you might be up against:

Are they In demand kicks eg limited run ? I use stock x for selling so worth having a look at using stock x but I’d only bother if they are hard to get hold of kicks

My son dabbles in sneaker reselling. In competition to StockX, eBay now have an authentication process so the shoes he is selling are fresh kicks, and very fly, then they will go to eBay and they check them and if happen they are legit, tag them and send them on to the buyer. It’s then eBay that “should” deal with any argy bargy about authenticity.

I think.

Thanks for the advice - I’ve used eBay for bike bits but know nothing about re-selling trainers (and he’s new to eBay). He’s selling a couple of pairs of Nike SB Dunks - I’ve just looked at the authentication process & they seem to be eligible. I had no idea this even existed!

Dunks & SB dunks are really popular and collectible, I’d just go on stock x and look the style up and you will get a view of current price of what the market is doing plus you can look at historical sales data also for that trainer

I wouldn't post anything if paid through ebay anymore. They buyer can so easily so it didn't arrive or an empty box and ebay will force a refund.

Cash on Collection = Scams not possible.
