Purchased a bulky item on ebay, it was advertised with free delivery - no exclusions stated
Ebay seller is a large store site - they sell customer returns with over 100k sales.
Getting messages telling me I need to pay an additional shipping charge due to locations - direct not through ebay
Now, I do live in 'the highlands and Islands' so I can understand it may cost them more, but strictly speaking it is their issue
They are also insisting its tough, pay more or I can ask them to cancel. I am saying neither I want them to fulfil the order.
Now they have left a voicemail (my number is on delivery details) asking me to ring them to discuss a 'solution' - I have no interest in getting into a conversation outside of ebay, or negotiating over the phone. I've replied by ebay message to that effect and reported the situation to ebay.
Frankly I don't know why they don't arbitrarily cancel on me as their choice and take the fee/feedback hit? Its not like anyone cares on ebay
You're not being unreasonable, but you can't force them to fulfil the order, so i'd jsut accept it'll get cancelled.
Annoying, but that's life...
DrP
If it were me it would depend how much the charge is and how good a deal the purchase was. Other than that I’d walk away, annoying but 🤷♂️
I routinely boycott anyone levying an additional charge for H&I though, as above, I'll sometimes make an exception if it's such an overwhelming bargain.
If you want to neg feedback them get in now, you won't be able to once the order is cancelled IIRC.
how much extra are they asking for?
Yeah, same here. Parcel force/royal mail don't charge me extra when I am sending stuff to the mainland.
It's their choice to cancel, which is the most likely outcome I agree. But I'm not going to do it for them.
Ignore them and make them cancel it if they aren't going to fulfill the order. They're trying to convince you to request the cancellation because it hurts their ebay ratings if they do it.

£20 on a £150 order. But they've got my back up with the attitude...so its principle now

Interesting, they have already left positive feedback on the purchase - so how will that work?

I think the positive feedback will remain if the order is cancelled; but you'd lose the ability to leave feedback if you hadn't done it yet.
I'm dimly remembering one occurrence like this I had though, so I might be wrong.
OK, so developments...
Item will be shipped, but not for 10 days.
Seems like the parcel force account holder is on holiday, so they were trying to use an alternative shipment which is much dearer for H&Is.... so trying to get me to take the hit.
They need to mark it as despatched so they don't get defect on their account (I had no idea this was a thing)
so I may get it, but not promptly, which TBH is fine by me.
This may all change when they find out I have reported them...
Highlands and Islands here too. Not "offshore" as many muppets claim! It's their issue. They can either absorb the cost and fulfil the order or cancel it. Definitely not up to you to cancel.
Edit: didn't see the post above saying it's resolved!

What sort of cow boy operation is it? Why would you need the account holder to be present to post a parcel?
Whingers - isn't this like moving next to a church then moaning about the bells being rung. Why should all of us stuck in suburbia sub your cozy, away from it all, Highlands dream!! 🤣 🤣 🤣
well its marked as posted now, so I am assuming cancellation is off the table.
It’s marked as posted so they have dispatched it on time according to the promise on the listing, whether or not the ParcelForce account holder has managed to log on from their villa in the south of France is a different matter…
in any case postage done through eBay is normally cheaper so they should have just done that Shirley?
... or perhaps more likely ...
They don't have it in stock and nor does their distributor for another 10 days. They can source it from somewhere else but it'll cost £20 more. They spin you a story about H&I, carriers and RM approvers rather than being honest that they're just forward shipping the stock from elsewhere.
Its a used item, a customer return to shop.
Think a bit like trisportsresort (wiggle) but not bikes

I see this as a brexit benefit, Shirley we are all one proud UK now. Its just my sunny uplands are better than yours 😉

Well no, people live there. It's not a 300mi round trip just to deliver one parcel.
PF are great (and don't charge extra for back end of nowhere because they have legacy infrastructure and things in place) but only if the item isn't bulky, if it is they won't carry it anyway.
What is it you're expecting them to send you?
