Looking at booking an easyjet flight to go skiing. It's £35 to take sports equipment up to 20 kg, and it says one set of sports equipment per passenger. Are they likely to check whether theres a snow board in there as well as the skis??

I've been lucky when taking multiple set of skis as one set, but I remove the bindings on one set so it's far less obvious.

You can simply do what airlines do when conjuring up excuses for late departures: lie.

Seriously though, they will ask you what's in it. I just lie. They will weigh it though so font try and squeeze boots in too!

Iirc easyjet skis are defined as 1 set of skis and a separate boot bag, the total weight for both bags can't exceed 20kg.

We had our board bag opened at check in and on finding two boards instead of the one had to pay for an extra board both ways before we could proceed further

It's odd that you pay 35 quid for 20kg but you can't put 20kg of skis in there. My last few holidays have used Monarch flights - 20kg "ski" carriage, two boards in the board bag, never been checked.

As above. It's sodding ridiculous. You pay extra for your 20kgs to be in a longer thinner format than your typical suitcase. how that 20kgs is made up should be irrelevant.

Having said that, I've never had a problem with multi boards. When travelling with mrs rapier, we get one board carraige, stick all the kit in there, and one suitcase. Both 20kgs, withing weight and size restrictions. If they want more, they can sodding whistle. I'll claim the other board is a stiffener for the bag or something.

I did have a problem 12 years ago when I tried to take 3 boards and 3 weeks of kit in a pre-restriction sized (sodding massive) boardbag without weighing it before I left. 39kgs. I had to buy another bag at the airport to put 7kgs of it in, and pay them GBP 😯 to take it all with me.

Although I can see that when you're allowing people to split into boot bag/ski bag, it's natural to start saying what's in them.

Over zealous interpretation by staff, I'd say. As I said, you're supposed to be paying for shape and weight, not what's in there.

We've had two or three boards in one bag on Easyjet at least 6 times. If it meets the weight they're happy I thought.

Boots and salopettes normally went in the board bag too.

I've had a double Sporttube for about 15 years, many, many ski trips with 2 pairs of skis in, it's never been questioned or opened.

It hadn't really occurred to me that it might be an issue, it's not overweight, and it's only one piece of luggage for them to deal with rather than 2.

Can't remember which airline but it was one of the budget ones. A friend of mine had paid extra for a snowboard bag. He had put all his other clothes in there too so wasn't carrying any thing else and it was under weight limit. He got told the snowboard bag could only contain the snowboard nothing else! He ended up having to distribute his clothes in the spare spaces in everyone else's bags.

If you were evil like me, and the skis have to go down to the separate oversize baggage conveyor, away from checkin, you could consider checking in with one board then repacking it with two before you get to the oversize drop off.

Never had a board bag or ski bag opened but always been weighed (mainly Manchester and Newcastle) and on various airlines.

I think the "1 bag, 1 board" rule is to do with liability and cost to replace 2 lots of kit rather than one. Sleazyjet do offer 20kgs, and I've always packed extra stuff in there without problem. Many of the package flights, Monarch etc have a 13kg limit to make sure you can't get two lots of skis in there.
