I could ask on ukc but I prefer it over here. 🙂 I'm shooting a wedding in Switzerland next week. Was gonna do some biking while I'm there but I broke my hand and it's still a little delicate for doing much biking.
Planning on doing some hiking instead now. Any recommendations? I will be on my own probably. I've got crampons/ice axe etc but probably wouldn't want to go too high. Any recommendations for peaks/routes I could do without a rope? Or an area to have a look at? Ideally not southern bit of the alps.
I'd like to try and camp up high somewhere too if possible.
Cheers!
Around Morzine has a lot of accessible mountains. How high do you want to camp? The weather isn't looking that stable
First one handed ascent of North Face of The Eiger?
Wild camping is illegal in Swarziland I think, altho dusk till dawn is ok as it's a bivi.
what about a walk to the monte Rosa Hutte, walk across a dry glacier and up a steep path, there are 2 ladders to climb at the top. You could walk from Zermatt and camp or cheat and catch the train to gonergrat or something.
there's a nice walk to the Britannia Hutte from Saas Grund or Saas Fee.
If you want to do a 4000er on your own then Grand Paradiso didn't have any cravasses on the tourist route 20 years ago. worth having a look 🙂
Cheers peeps. Was considering morzine for the biking so will have a look round there. Don't need to camp too high just something that feels nice and mountainous. Could be round the corner from a hit for the sake of convenience. 🙂
Was looking at the Breithorn but it seems like cheating and sounds super busy. Gran Paradiso looks ace.
Ah yeah monte rosa would be cool. I remember you commented on my pic of it years ago. It's a very pretty area.
I do a lot of high walking around Morzine. More than I do mtb riding
Lots of excellent routes v apparent on the ign maps. Some chained sections to get the nerves going but nothing treacherous esp as I invariably walk alone.
Depending on appetite you can climb from 950/1000m to a range of 2200-2450m peaks or get a helping hand with the lift to 1500/1600m first.
Some peaks are rarely walked. I had a 2200m peak to myself on boxing day. A hill I expect less than 50 people a year ascend.
Pointe de la Chavache boxing day
