Are these any good? I'm not a fan of things that stick in my ears and these seem a decent alternative.

Don't particularly like things in my ears, but use ER-20's at louder gigs and they've been fine. Can really hear the music clearly as well

I was going to mention ER20s as well.

The reviews make these ones sound good. And they're pretty cheap.

If I didn't find the triple-flange ones OK I'd likely give these a go before going down the custom route.

ER20s here, they are pretty good - have even improved the 'sound' at gigs where deaf/idiot engineers runs everything too loud/into distortion

I swear by Etymotic ER20's, but the S version, that have smaller diameter baffles. Used them for years on and off stage, at work and other noisy places. I'm thinking of buying some of Etymotic's earphones...

I have some ER-20 like ones, with different inserts for different attenuation levels. Work really well in gigs as the triple flange cuts out all background noise.

I think mine are these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Alpine-MusicSafe-Classic-Filter-Plug/dp/B0032BYCWG/ref=pd_sim_MI_5?ie=UTF8&refRID=03KK5R5Q4KW7PAPP6T8T

They look a bit shorter than the ER20s so may be a good alternative.

I use Doc's pro plugs for practicing and for gigging. Work for me. BUT you need to get the right size!

willej I got some of the Etymotic MC5s for my son recently. He rates them for fit, noise exclusion, and sound quality. And they're not a bad price.

I've also got the Alpine ones. I only really find I need the lowest attenuation.
