My old Screwfix ear defenders broke the other day so I used my chainsaw helmet which has half decent ear defenders as a stop gap and noticed a significant difference in noise suppression

I only need the ear defenders when using my log splitter which has a noisy hydraulic power pack. I’ve got loads of wood to split over the winter so it would be worth spending a bit more on something good

Any recommendations would be helpful

Just get some earplugs? Either foam ones or snazzy custom moulded ones from  https://www.ultimateear.com/

3M Peltor. Much comfier than the cheap ones I've tried. They have different models depending on how much noise protection you need. I have the folding type, very handy to keep in my bag

earplugs too easy lost and in a dirty enviroment with taking them in and out in dirty enviroment can lead to infection.

i save them for where i need secondary hearing protection in high noise and use peltor x3 the rest of the time so i can take them on and off with ease.

Peltor do them in various grades both hardhat fit and headband fit.

Honeywell/Howard Leight Impact Sport ear defenders.  Less than £50 on Amazon, a bit more if you get them elsewhere. I use them for shotgun and rifle shooting. Great advantage is that they are electronic, and noise cancelling over certain volumes, so you can hear all the ambient sounds, and aren't immersed in a bubble while you're wearing them. Great battery life, I've had several continuous hours out of the last set. Excellent value for money, comfortable for a two-hour competition.

I have these ones -  https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00BBCTQK6/ref=pe_385721_37038051_TE_3p_dp_1

So comfy - they have some kind of memory foam stuff around the ear cups. They also make most things silent!

Thanks folks. Ive ordered a set of the 3M Peltor ones. I noticed you can also get them supplied with the clips to fit my ground helmet. I'll try the standard fitting ones first and will see how I get on with them. If they are good  for me I'll try a set for my helmet too.

Too recommendation on the Peltors. I bought the two pairs and they are a revelation.  Noise suppression and comfort are leagues ahead of my previous pairs.  Thanks

Peltor worktunes are the best money I've spent for years. Radio 4 all day long and amazing noise reduction even compared to my normal peltors. Can't work with any moving machinery around

I used Peltor ear defenders on a hard hat for 15 years, reasonable seal if you're wearing glasses too. (Based on 90's and 00's glasses fashion).
