Maybe some of the e-bay gurus can help me understand some weirdness and advise what to do next!

I made an offer on an item. The seller made a counter which I accepted. I went to pay through Paypal but I got a message that said “your order was not successful”. I thought maybe I’d mistyped something but when I went back and clicked the “complete order” button on the mail from e-bay it now says that the item is not available.

I’m not sure what to think – is the seller being slippery? Is it an e-bay goof?

Thanks for your advice!!

It might be that the seller made several people offers (which are all valid for 2 days iirc) or someone did a buy it now. If they've used the "immediate payment required" then it wont end the listing untill someone buys it and has paid, so possible soneone just had faster fingers than you.

Would think it is an eBay goof. See what messages the seller has got and then phone eBay to see what has happened.

Could just be that between the seller making you the counter offer and you accepting it someone came along and bought it at the full asking price.

Hmm, well, now I got a receipt from Paypal and a confirmation from the seller that the order went through, so I guess it was "one of those things".
