Do they come with a roll of tape to get you started?
Yup mine did , watch out it's addictive.
watch out it’s addictive.
This - you'll be labelling your lighty switches ON and OFF before you know it!
You're reminding me of my parents caravans. Every cupboard had a list of what was inside on the front, every switch, fuse or valve had a taped set of instructions.
Holidays were like being in the doctor's waiting room, so much to read about crap...
My Brother one came with little starter tapes. One of the most useful things I've got - all my brews are now listed with dates on the beer fridge
Anyone tried the “durable” or “permanent” tapes? Or 3rd party ones?
The regular ones just peel off within months on things like my toolbox trays.
The Brother tapes seem to last

Yup - our kids label everything, even rooms in the house. It's amusing.
Or 3rd party ones?
Yeah I use ones I got from Amazon and they work perfectly.
Just reading the word “Dymo” makes me want one.
I inherited one. Lethal, suddenly all this plugs and cables needed labelling and ....
I have a Brother one and use their tapes seems to work for me.
Crikey! I thought they'd died out years ago.
Just looked on Amazon - HOW MANY CHOICES!!!!!!
Golly.
Crikey! I thought they’d died out years ago.
Nooo - not the new spangly ones (although I believe the old style ones are still available actually).
Toolstation always have a half price one on the shelf when I go in there but so far I’ve managed not to buy it because I tell myself I have nothing to label.
Reading this, I could be wrong. I should be labelling everything!
Mrs R has a thing about labelling stuff, which is really useful when e.g. you're wondering what that power supply in the drawer belongs to before you throw it away. The label printers are sold using a similar model to computer printers and ink - label printer plus about 2cm of tape is 50p, replacement tapes £1M each (I exaggerate to make a point). Fortunately the 3rd party tape seems to work just as well.
Top tip - when you need to create multiple labels, do them in one big label and cut them up afterwards because each label uses a few mm before and after the [label content].
Years ago, I was asked at work to use our labeller to put a warning on the hot water tap as apparently someone had had it drip on their hand or something, because obviously the boiler for making tea is somewhere you want to be washing your goddamn hands. I protested that I didn't want to live in a world where hot taps had to have warning labels and was overruled.
So, off I went, duly Dymoed up, a little part of me dying inside as I printed out "WARNING: Contents may be hot" and stuck it on the boiler. Then I turned and looked around and... oh my god, just look at all these potential hazards! Something in my brain went a bit Jack Torrence and I got to work. A label on the fridge, "WARNING: Contents may be cool," the water dispenser "WARNING: Contents may be wet" and so on till I ran out of tape. I got a hard stare off my boss for that one.
For clarity, it's a motion activated tap with no temperature control. For additional ****wittery points, this was in the head offices of one of the UK's largest water companies.
Mine came with tape but only around half of what'd you buy as replacement. I needed a couple of rolls to complete
(further rigorous labelling out of shot)
Mine is a brother one, think it was £15 or something. I do feel the urge to label things tho. Generally pithy and amusing comments on the offspring's possessions. At least one member of the family finds this amusing.
Peak Dymo is when you print the label for your box of Dymo label reels. I like them. If you are reading this, chances are you are the same.
it’s a motion activated tap with no temperature control.
Yeah, this was a wall-mounted boiler with a tap on it like you get on those big tea kettle things, so you've to pull the lever forward / down to activate it and it shuts off when you let go.
And as a sort of PSA I just got a Toolstation mailing through the post and they have a Brother label printer for £24.99. Comes with a mains adaptor which gets over one of my objections to our current one which is the need for a shedload of AAs to power it, and also a QWERTY keyboard, and all in a fetching orange so you look like a professional. Probably comes with a 2cm cartridge of tape too...

I have one of these. The slightly wider tape width is handy, but mainly use it for heat shrink tubing. Worth the money, especially since you can buy bargain bucket tape on eBay which is just as good as the genuine Brother stuff.
