Heard a rumour from someone in the business that due to ongoing review, staff shortages etc DVSA are considering allowing full D1 licence holders (hire and reward) to drive 22 seaters without converting to D category.

Anyone else heard these rumours or can firm up the info???

Still find it ridiculous that drivers have to take a coach test to drive a 22 seater midibus/minibus a few feet longer than a 16 seater.

As long as the icon of a motorbike is still on the back of my licence I'm not bothered*

* It's actually entitlement to ride/drive a 3wheeler that you automatically get with a car license but its worked in Ibiza to blag/hire a 500cc maxi scooter (and probably many other holiday destinations)

{Points at motorbike icon} "of course I can ride a motorbike!"

D1 is the vehicle, not hire and not "hire and reward".

Category D1

You can drive vehicles with:

no more than 16 passenger seats

a maximum length of 8 metres

a trailer up to 750kg

Category D1E

You can drive D1 category vehicles with a trailer over 750kg maximum authorised mass (MAM).

The combined MAM of both cannot exceed 12,000kg.

Is "full" D1 tested or grandfather rights/day 1 rights? These have a different code on your licence.
