I swear we've done this but I can't find it with the search.
What inexpensive digital video recorder (tivo/sky+ type thing)?
Moved just before christmas to a house without a TV aerial but had a sky dish so bought a Samsung freesat box SMT7800. It's a superb thing, highly recommend it.
Humax. Great bit of kit and not that expensive.
[Edit] They also do an HD one now which is a bit more pricey. No experience of that one though. Saw the 3view jobbie about 18 months ago when it was brand new to the market and was quite impressed with it. Don't think they are all that much either and you get HD recordings as well.
Humax here. Can't remember if does HD or not - I think so (doubles the file size IIRC). Decent bit of kit but DOES NOT start and stop every recording when the program starts and stops. Don't mind getting an extra minute of stuff at the beginning, but it's bloody annoying to have the ending chopped off.
Menus are a bit counter-intuitive at times.
But other than that pretty good.
Another happy Humax user here.
Search for Humax or PVR to see the recent thread.
Depends if you want the freeview element or not.
I have Sky and a Samsung DVD/DVR - will "talk" to the tv if it has freeview and record from the EPG, 180hrs of recording space, etc.
I actually bought another for the spare tv but then the kids bust the tv so its sat in its box never used since.
