A few years ago I saved all my CDs to the PC and threw all the cases away.very liberating. Has anyone done the same with DVDs?
Won't burn to PC but might just save to a case?
I kind of like having the DVDs displayed on the book shelf in the spare room.
I've done half my collection and saved a load of space. I still wanted to be able to flick through the covers and so I decided to use Slappa pages and box http://slappa.co.uk/dvd-cases/.
I've still a lot to do so I'll probably order some more pages but I wasn't too keen on the finish of the storage box so will look for an alternative plastic box.
I'd like to do similar with CD's but with around 400 discs Slappa cases work out too expensive, unless someone has a good alternative CD storage (with sleeves) solution ?
I just did this with over 1000 DVDs (including TV recordings). Put them all into clear plastic envelopes and stored in a drawer system. I can't bring myself to do it with my CD collection though!
The nice thing with the DVD collection now is they are stored by genre (Film, TV drama, TV Comedy etc.) and in alphabetical order so I can find anything I want now in a matter of seconds. I never bothered organising before.
I did all my CDs - around 600 and all my videos - I don't want to count them, but there were close to 600 films, never mind the series.
It takes time*, but once done you can throw them in a cupboard or sell them and have all your media on a NAS drive. Plex makes flicking through the collection looking for something much easier than wading through a big pile of boxes.
* I found it best to copy the disks to a hard drive on my PC, queue the conversions in Handbrake and leave it running for a day or two, come back and upload the results to the NAS.
Well I do still have all my CDs in a cd case just not the boxes.
We chucked our DVD cases out ages ago and store them in CD filing books. Takes up massively less space, easier to find if you sort them sensibly, and I copied the more recent ones to a network drive anyway so the physical media is(are?) only a backup. Anything that was on the sleeve is more readily available on IMDB. It also means your more embarrassing DVD purchases aren't on display to visitors. Getting rid of the cases was a bit of an issue - our council apparently can't recycle them so hundreds ended up in landfill.
We haven't bought a DVD for years though, everything's streamed these days.
