planet rock have pushed it so much its kinda put me off
Serves you right for listening to Planet Rock 😉
Not really listened enough yet but good all the same 'So it's like that' is my favorite at the moment. No recorded material will ever do him justice though as live he is in a whole different league!
Joe is indeed some sort of guitar God.
For those who've not heard his stuff;
[url=
Gin[/url] (I think this is his finest work!)
Heavily influenced by the British Blues scene of Clapton, Jeff Beck, Free, The Faces and more, this guy's simply one of the finest musicians out there.
He's only 34, but plays like a man who's lived a century. From Wiki;
He first opened for B. B. King at 12 years of age. After first hearing him play, King said, “This kid's potential is unbelievable. He hasn't even begun to scratch the surface. He's one of a kind.”
Superb stuff.
Cringeworthy dad rock
What's Planet Rock?
Yeah, he's fantastic live - have seen him twice now!
Wouldn't say that Sloe Gin is my favourite.
As regards cringeworthy dad rock, you obviously do not appreciate a talented guitarist. 🙄
Really can't stand guitar music these days
C_G, it's OK, I just love the orchestration of Sloe Gin. Mountain Time makes me very happy as well, as it reminds me of someone.... 😈
"What's Planet Rock?"
It's a radio station that fills almost all of it's airtime with cringeworthy dad rock.
Nowt wrong with a bit of dad rock every now and then - good driving music. 😀

FTFY
Do they play any Nirvana?
I was being circumspect:) Personally I find it to be a source of derivative sub standard rock and metal for the emotionally and musically stunted. But that may just be me. If it is, then I'm more than happy with that 🙂
yeah they play nirvana, metallica, pearl jam, soundgarden, led zep, neil young, muse etc
but also a lot of aerosmith, gnr, extreme, bon jovi, van halen etc etc
rick wakemans weekend show was awesome, they are sadly lacking since he left
i believe joe bonamassa has a dj slot

its a &*$£ business
Nah - don't get him at all in the slightest. Somehow he makes guitar-based rock music sound bland and one-dimensional. Sick of hearing him (and the new Whitesnake single) on Planet Rock.
Does nothing for me. but he's a talented guitarist
I'm a fan of both Joe Bonamassa and Planet Rock and I didn't have a scooby what this thread was about until I read half the comments. I'm not wholly sure how that passed me by. I knew there was a new album coming but couldn't remember the title.
So. Is it good, then?
Hmmmm, 'bland and one-dimensional'. I would say that his live albums, ie 'From Nowhere in Particular' and also 'A New Day Yesterday Live' would perhaps change your opinion.
New album growing on me but I don't have Naim so naturally it will sound shonky. 😉
Well I only have what I have heard on PR to guide me but nothing has compelled me to find out more about him yet.
Are we talking this?
I was very interested when I first heard about him, and then a bit disappointed when I realised he was that guy I'd heard lots of times already on Planet Rock and been a bit bored by. I've no doubt he's a guitar wizard but it all seems a bit too, I don't know, 'smooth'. Maybe the live stuff's better.
Have to agree with the bland and one dimentional comments. He may be technically good but he's adding nothing to the blues genre.
Why is it some people love to talk down others taste in music? It don't happen with food ....... to the same degree at least! (obviously the fast food junkies are a bit off track! equivelant to listening to white noise perhaps?).

I've been playing guitar for 30 years.
How long have you been playing?
I've been playing guitar for 30 years. How long have you been playing?
Pray tell me why I need to play a guitar in order to comment? I've only been listening to music longer than 30 years. 🙄

POSTED 39 MINUTES AGO # REPORT-POST
Thing is I like the genre of music I just don't like him.
And the one word in the OP was 'discuss' not 'agree'.
ftfy
What does that mean please?
It's young person speak. You wouldn't understand
That was a gruesome listen. Sometimes talent with a guitar should lead to no more than a solid career as a session musician.
And the one word in the OP was 'discuss' not 'agree'.
I did not pose the question because I thought that was going on here, on the whole it's not too bad but it often degenerates into a "I hate this", "it's total dross" sort of thing but music is all things to all people no matter what genre. Too many people suck up the material fed them by the marketing industry at the expense of true talent and variety. Joe Bonamassa even had a tee shirt that read 'Joe Bonawho?' Music should be explored off piste to find the best stuff. Follow the maked trails and on the whole you'll just find the same old, same old!
It's young person speak. You wouldn't understand
Well, if you've been playing 30 years then you're hardly young are you? 🙄
