I am looking at the Durston tents, looking at getting one for the Cape Wrath walk next year.

Do anyone us them and what are your opinions please?

yes I have an X-Mid 1 with solid inner. Honestly, it's been fantastic. been using it a year now. It kept me cosy during some ferocious storms high in the Tien Shan mountains, and the pack size is excellent. Pitching is easy once you get hang of, and there's a good video on the website. Only thing to watch is the polyester fly is more abrasion-sensitive than silnylon so when pitching make sure it won't flap against a rock for example. If you need the poles, the Durston carbon poles are brilliant too. They fold and telescope and the folded length is very short so they fit in a frame bag on my bike. The inner is narrow on the x-mid 1, initially i thought it might feel claustrophobic but the headroom is excellent so it doesn't feel that way at all, and the volume storage space under the fly is super. Mine with the solid inner came with a forest green fly which is perfect shade for being stealthy. I've no regrets, and would go so far as to say the best lighweight one-man tent I've used, in 30+ yrs of using one man tents... oh almost forgot, being able to fold the inner away with the fly pitched, and without having to get out the tent, when the weather is horrid is one of my favourite things. I can pack my bags in shelter and only drop the fly when I'm ready to go.

Have heard v good things about the neweer free standing one, but so far have no wished I'd waited for that.

I've got an X-Dome 1.5

For a 1 person tent it feels palatial. You can pitch it altogether fly, inner or any variation. It's freestanding which is vital for me.

I opted for the solid inner I feel cold all the time..

I also waited until you could spec shorter poles for packing.

It's around a kilo which is remarkable given the size.

I did have to pay £100 in customs charges which stung a bit.
