Howdy - I'm whittling down choices for a stag do and Durham seems to fit the bill nicely (long story).
Trouble is, I can't seem to dig out much in the way of cheapy, hostel type bunkhouse places to stay so far.
Anyone got any suggestions please? It'll be a group of 10-14 blokes in our mid-thirties, plus a couple of Dads (who I'll put up somewhere a bit nicer).
Cheers,
JM
i think we really need to hear this long story as durham? really?
Maybe one of them really wants to go to Klute?
It is actually a nice place for civilised evenings.
There will be places around and about but I can't think of anything in the city.

What Durham???
Durham can be pretty rowdy.
"Back in the day" it was extremely violent. Much worse than Newcastle.
Very well - the criteria I've been handed is that it:
Shouldn't cost a fortune.
Ideally not take all day for folks to get there (and the dreaded Sunday run home again) and, if possible
Not be in a huge big city where we'll be one group of p*ssed up w*ankers in a sea of groups of p*ssed up w*nkers (i.e. Newcastle/Edinburgh/Glasgow/Cardiff etc).
Folks will be coming from Glasgow, Edinburgh, Carlisle and it'd be good to head somewhere noone's been out in before, which is actually surprisingly difficult given we've all done several stag do's in our time.
Durham ticked a few of the boxes but having never been, alternatives would be welcomed.
You'll not get much cheaper than a four person family room at the travel lodge at the top of Claypath.
Between a night out out in Newcastle/Durham/Sunderland, Durham is by far the 'nicer' option. Less rowdy by far.
It's the chosen location of all my over-30 work colleagues. Underrated.
Durham is is godd night out but has always been short of accomodation. You could always stay in Newcastle and get the train.
Hexham is another option.
Agreed, live in Sunderland, but prefer Durham. Head of Steam is great for Belgian Beer madness.

Depends really. With Newcastle you have the options. You can have pretty much any night out you want. Rowdy. Crowdy. Quiet. Sophisticated. There's pretty much anything that takes your fancy dotted around the city.
Sunderland's......well, it's Sunderland. Probably not an option I'd pick for a stag do.
Durham's a nice city. But it depends what type of night out you're looking for. If you end up clubbing it's a bit of a dive. Some good bars dotted about, but Durham's a very small city.
All good stuff guys, thanks! Please keep it coming!
You might need to be creative with the booking. Large groups of males clearly on a stag do are generaliy not popular.

Times many. And great Pizzas too.
No idea for accomodation - always stay in the Prem Inn (City Center) which is nice but not cheap.
There is a nice india called the Spice Lounge behind the church if you need suggestions for food.
For Chinese food, In Shanghai is a buffet restaurant I've used for years.
Good food and vfm, and get a window seat at night for a good view of the illuminated castle.
Edit; it's a stag do so you'll be looking at other views ...
You can have Indian Thai Italian Chinese and Lebanese up by the Cathedral. There are some good real ale pubs dotted about just be careful of the locals coming in from the surrounding pit villages. They will normally stay in the market square and North Road area. Its a great place for a Stag Do.
I think you can get rooms through the university:
Victoria Inn is fabulous for a visit, and nice accommodation for the dads
If you're there during the uni holidays, you can stay in the Colleges.
Thanks guys
