I have to take out some clients in Dundee mid week, what city centre pubs would you recommend that would be suitable for a few socials without having the fitba blasting from the TV etc I think they are big into malts so a decent selection of whisky would be good. All advice welcome
any, just make sure you have a pool ball in a sock with you at any time.
Thats what I was thinking Mr N!
Perth road, just a short bit from the town centre,Speedwell bar (mennies)More or less in the town you have the "cultural quarter" ( DCA,Social, basement)For a good fight try the Dolphin in Fintry or the horseshoe in the town.Oh and stay out the witherspoons counting house as the cheap prices attract the wrong sort of fellow.
The trades house is bang in the town centre, across from the Overgate/City Churches and owned by two Dundee publican legends,Blair and Gerry. It is a really well turned out old bank which has at least 40 draught beers. They don't take any crap,so the neds bide awa. Example of how clever they are is the disclaimer they have painted on the wall.Oh and both there and Mennies have at least 100 malts
+1 Mennies (speedwell bar) for some malts.
I wouldnt take them past the traffic lights on the Perth road if I was you, its gadgie-tastic IMO.
DCA bar (Dundee Contemporary Arts) is fairly sophisticated, Dukes corner is OK to as they have a huge selection of beers.
Another vote for Mennies Speedwell Bar)
Trades is good as is the Pheonix which is over the road from the Arts Centre.
A wee taxi ride to Broughty Ferry and a visit to the Fishermans or the Ship Inn would also be recommended.
I think The Fishermans is owned by the same folk who have Mennies??
ex mennies staff, so a bit biased, but +1 there.
Fisherman's was owned by jon stewart of mennies, but sold last year to belhaven. probably still a good choice though
always thought the trades was overrated. phoenix is good, and usually some fine tottie behind the bar. decent range of whiskies
dca is totally pretentious, but looks nice and would probably be my choice for any business/client oriented activities
btw - this isn't anything to do with a documentary about a boat is it?
