Apologies for the question,just wanted to pay some money to a bike shop via their sort code. Would the post office be able to do this?

No.
You need a sort code, account name and an account number. Go to your bank and get them to do it. Or go online and use your banks online software to do it.
Or just ring the shop and pay with your card.
