Anyone been? Love to hear peoples experiences. Site itself. Stuff to do in surrounding area and weather etc.
Hi Loddrik
We did a static caravan there a few years back and another trip a few years later to nordwijk which was a good base.
The attracktipark (or however you spell it) is ok but it's a fab place to head out from to explore that bit of Dutch coast.
It's getting late but a few ideas (pm or email me if you want some more and I'll respond over weekend).
Beaches, sandy and spacious
Scheveningen aquarium, seafront eateries
Madurodam model village
Nordwijk area is nice
Drive to Leiden Transferium, bus to station and train into Amsterdam
Plenty of cycling on segregated tracks
Dutch rules on swimming with kids and arm bands are irritating as hell (ours were small at the time).
Crossing from Harwich to Hook of Holland is very civilised.
I love Holland and we've had long term connection with there through family friends.
Plenty of other smaller things to do in the many towns around the coast. Other stuff inland but the kids loved the beaches (even in October on our first trip).
Hi Loddrick,
I was there in October this year, had a brilliant time.
We were there with another family, we just had our youngest children with us 13&14.
We sailed from Newcastle to Ijmuiden on the DFDS overnight ferry. Transfer time to the park is about an hour, same from Rotterdam/Europort.
Stayed in Alfresco accommodation, ours was a bit tired and the rep said they would be getting rid of them at the end of the season. Our friends caravan was a lot better!
Attractie park was great for them, they were old enough just to go over and suit themselves, same with the Tiki bad.
There is a bus stop at the park entrance that you can catch a bus to Den Haag train station. Or you can take 2 buses to get to Leiden train station this was really no hassle at all.
We went to the closest beach to the campsite one day and Katwijk on another, it was unseasonably warm when we were there so the beach and the sea were great.
We also took a trip to Delft and Amsterdam on another day. Did both of these using the bus and train.
Campsite is located right next to the town of Wassenaar, you don't really need a car once you have parked up at the campsite, it takes about 10 minutes to walk into town. It's a really nice place and quite affluent, there are various bars, restaurants and a supermarket. Also the legendary Lucianos for ice cream.
Loads of cycling in the area to be had as well.
We are thinking about going back next year.
Booked up for July 19, looks great!.
I’ve been twice and loved it and we’ll Probably be going for the third time next year. Our brother in law and family went two years ago on our recommendation and will be going back too. It’s great for kids the theme park is great and there is plenty to keep them occupied. The swimming pool is ace it gets busy so we would go first thing when it was quieter but if you like fast water slides then you’ll love it. I second the ice cream parlour and miniature village. We went via train and bus which wasn’t too bad. We hired bikes and cycled to the beach and had trips to Amsterdam. We stayed in the static caravan. If you book direct with the site it is cheaper. I know people who have camped and it’s also dog friendly.
Stayed as part of a camping bike touring trip so can't comment on other stuff to do. I'm a big fan of theme parks so loved the rides and tiki pool but the campsite part was pretty dire. Rock solid grassless pitches and manky toilets. Plus far too many "Brits" smashed out their face or passed out next to their tents...
When I went campers got free access to the theme park with their campsite fee which was less than a park entrance fee.
You should go!
What sort of weather did people get in August?
Used to live near there (but never went there).
Weather in August is just like South Coast of England. Warm and sunny usually.
been twice, highly recommend Duinrell and the surrounding area, loads to do as mentioned above
Parts of park where a bit tired and swimming pool gets crowded (changing rooms are not the best) but other than that its far better experience (and cheaper) than going to a UK centreparcs
Awesome, really looking forward to it. Need to look into all what's required for driving on the continent post Brexit now.
We took our kids there when they were teenagers, all three of them have taken their kids back too, must have made some sort of impression... 😀
A great place.
Lodders, ye been yet?
Not yet mate. Third week in August. Be interested to hear your thoughts when you get back 👍🏻
Weather in Aug should be warm-hot, sunny, generally about 25-30 deg.
There might be a day or two with rain, it could get to 35 deg in rare cases.
Sauce: I live there.
I'm off on ferry from Newcastle on friday Lodders, I'll let ye know how it goes.
Do you have a link as duinrell seems to throw up loads of different sites , thanks
Main website for the park,
https://www.duinrell.com/
Although it's cheaper to book through the likes of Eurocamp, Canvas, Alfresco, etc.
According to a friend who booked for a week this October.
If you have kids they will love it!
Good place, took my road bike and cycled up to the beach then up the coast on a cycle track. Roundabouts have crossings just for bikes, out of this world.
Roterdam was also very nice with the maritime meusium and modern architecture etc.
Also cycled around the outskirts of the hauge, amazing houses some with very expenive cars parked outside.
Superb, cars all loaded, bikes to get loaded in the morning, canny wait. Booked wifey, daughter and I in for what looks a real fun urban trail 10k in the Hague on Sunday, we'll be cycling to that. 😊
Wish I could say the same. Going with wife, 9 & 13 year old daughters and 13 yr olds mate. The chances of me getting them all out on bikes is nil.
I will be taking my Brompton though for some ‘me’ time.
Lodders, been back a couple of weeks now, forgot to post up!.
Was awesome, we'll be going back next year, for sure. The ferry was ace, part of the holiday really, so much better for us than the whole flying faff. Great getting off the ferry fresh and early morning.
We booked through Eurocamp, was good, but I'll book direct with Duinrell next year, bigger accom, free access to pool and wifi etc, no biggies, just nice touches. Waterpark is busy as ****, themepark isn't too bad, no massive queues really.
Wassenaar itself is lovely, awesome ice cream - which is cheap as **** - good restaurants and loads of shops, good supermarket too.
The cycling is off the scale good. Only day we used the car was to go to amsterdam, cycled to the Hague twice, Scheveningen, Delft, Katwijk (don't go there) and out and about daily on the awesome cycle network through the dunes, to the beach, its amazing. Puts our cycling 'network' to utter shame.
Anything else you wanna know, gimme a shout mate.
Great stuff mate. Nice one. Will definitely take the Brompton.
Katwijk (don’t go there)
the only reason I'd suggest riding bikes that way is to pay a visit to the Space Expo (between Katwijk and Noordwijk).
Leiden would be one to add to the places to go to. Delft is a nice place.
Kaywijk was a bit like barrow in Furness.
