and and... Outstanding Contribution award.. they've actually RUN OUT of people to give it to haven't they? What is the Petshop Boys outstanding contribution? A cover of a Village People Song?
Who next year? Blancmange? Howard Jones? Whigfield?

Pah!

the outstanding musical contribution will be for whoever has a run of reissues/remasters coming out that year: wouldn't be suprised to see some repackaged PSB soon.
I really do love PSB but i'm not sure they have 'contributed' in terms of anything other than daft videos and a huge sales volume over the years. Hard to see anyone around these days who makes musical or stylistic reference to them in the same way as say, the Cure, Bauhaus, Joy Division/New Order or Depeche Mode.

It is laughable... If you compare the brits to the MTV europe awards. The MTV ceremony is actually pretty good TV, they get some goods bands playing and generally an amusing presenter.
Smiffy and Gavin were shite tonight as were the so called collaborations. I turned over and watched law and order SVU.

It's mediocre music for mediocre people, or at best people who are not mediocre who happen to have mediocre music tastes.

The biggest talking point has to be that the ginger one just doesn't fit in with the other 4. They must spend ages on her hair and make up and she still looks awful. They need to take a leaf out the spice girls book and ditch the ginger.

Fancy a Danish? Ooh yes please! Can I have jam on it too?

Sorry Dez, but you've set the wheels in motion, now...

night, I feel the air
Is getting hot
Like you baby
I'll make you mine you know
I'll take you to the top
I'll drive you crazy
Saturday night, dance, I like
The way you move
Pretty baby
It's party time and not one
Minute we can lose
Be my baby[/url]

Aah Whigfield!

Remember that blaring out of the radio in a mates car in Spain, back in the day [wistful sigh]...

Tearing around southern Spain in a Nova. He and his missus in the front me in the back. Either drunk or hung over. He used to drive like a fekkin' lunatic. Euro pop on the radio. Spanish Police stopping us for speeding on an A road from the airport and clearing us out on the road from the airport....

...still, got back to Blighty and blimey. Dosen't Whigfield sound like a load of old cobblers?

Duffy's voice annoys the hell out of me (you're Welsh not American, sorry love), the songs seem utterly formulaic and derivative and, well, that's enough for me. I need something to interest me in the music.

definatly would, ive had nothing against her, until she said, yesterday

"you give up so much by making music, and dont get any recognition for it, but this makes it all worth while"

no recognition! your getting paid arnt you? its only a job, i dont get national recognition either, but as long as it pays the rent....

I did wonder that! I can usually see it from our workshop window but thankfully the rain/mist has rolled in and obscured it 🙂
I usually lock the car doors when I drive through & its the only place I have had someone threaten to take my bike off me!

I saw her on the first night of her tour last year, about this time of year. It was in a small venue (The Thekla), her car had broken down en route so she was late - but it was a fantastic gig. She's got a great voice, smoky songs, and had people humming along after one chorus of some new songs. She deserves it.

Duffy? Lame. Ok she's got a characteristic voice coz she smoked too many tabs when she was a kid or some other such marketing rubbish invented to try to give her some edginess. She is so edgeless she might as well be a **** golf ball! She. has. no . personality. Every move she does on stage you can tell has been drilled into her. Entirely soulless. It's like watching a motorised mannequin. She's anodyne pap of the lowest order, and w*nk fodder for dodgy old barstewards who bought norah jones and katie melua cds. And probably very dim. Seriously, what does she bring to the table apart from karaoke by numbers and chinny grins? Amy Winehouse is many things, but she knocks this dribble of shite into the shade with every word she sings.

Blimey, what a rant! Phew.

Best releases of 2009 so far:

Mono - Hymn to the Immortal Wind
Æthenor - Faking Gold and Murder

Forget Duffy. Our brains are fading fast. Don't waste time your neural pathways' time.

The ting tings/estelle, was the best brit moment since mick fleetwood and sam fox. Just pipping brandon block into 2nd place.

Did someone not actually twig that putting those songs together just sounded shite?

i cant believe people actualy watch the brits,
its just a music industry shindig where lots of music industry types get a free p!ss up and try and convince you to buy more of the formulaic crap they churn out and make them even more money
case in point duffy; give it a few years and your local cancer research charity shop will have 10 copies of her album

I'd say she's in her rights there. If you're going to quote her magnum opus to her at least do it properly. It's:

Diddyannana

I remember, around a year ago, on the old STW forum there was a post raving about this new Welsh songstress called Duffy and how good she was. Many people were in agreement. Fast forward and now she's met with success you all hate her. Yer fickle bunch 😆

I think Rockferry is one of my fave songs - simply beautiful. And, yes, for the record, I would.
