So my facebook feed has been filled up with pics of this beast this morning...

Anybody out there got a spare £20k or so they could "lend" me that they wouldn't miss...? 😆
bit like a VFR800...
My 1098s is starting to look old compared.
Still love a twin though
Where are the mirrors?
Does nothing for me at all. Looks pregnant. The 1199 yes... this... No.
KTM 790, now we're talking 🙂
What’s the black curly thing just in front of the rear wheel?
And where are the indicators?
Unfortunately I think the 790 will be rather watered down by the time it hits the road.
The Ducati is a thing of beauty. The KTM looks like it was made by children who ran out of mecano before they finished.
Ducati have just lumped themselves in with the Japanese brands now, should have stayed with twins. Ducati = big twin. poor effort. Also missed opportunity to reinvent the styling. 2/10 regardless how it rides.
A Ducati V4? It's like the 1980s all over again.
Ta weeksy, looks a little bit better.. but still not too sure about all these odd angles bike manufacturers are designing into thier bikes these days.
I’d like a simplified bike, a return to the roots.
I guess these arse up/head down bikes are difficult to ride eh.
That's just KTMs thing really. That's their USP, well that and the orange.
Depends upon where you ride, i have one of each in the garage.
This KTM is my day to day bike

the other is the sportsbike, that i've only ridden once since buy and am unlikely to ever ride again

I think they've hit the limits on what they could get out of a twin so had to go to a V4 to keep up.
I remember the 1098 owners parking at Brands WSB in the late 90's
Still love a twin though
My red V twin
With its [s]stable[/s] garage mate
I've had both a 748 & a 996 - nice to look at but both felt fragile & the servicing costs were 😯 cam belt bi-annually if you did the mileage some do in a car!

Why?
Why
Been there, done it. Many years, dozens upon dozens of sports bikes. This was bought as its Mrs Weeksys dream bike she used to own. She'll do 2-3 track days a year on it. No road though. I did 1 session on track on it to test, but mostly I just bought it because its the prettiest bike on the planet.
Ohh that KTM Scapel looks better than I thought it would. Just need a Lotto win now!

Haven't ridden mine since an engine rebuild a few years ago so it'll need the belts doing again!
Still love it though.
This sounds like a V4 but that is where VFR800 comparisons stop
Revs like an old 400 pocket rocket, not a litre superbike.
bit like a VFR800.
Well it's red and...
Why bother with a rotary series when you could pack the grandstands with a 2 stroke series? 😀
Ohhh. Back to 500cc 2strokers ?
I’d watch and smell that 😆
Talking of strokers, I'm just in from running one I've freshly rebuilt for me Da up in the garage in preparation for running it to work tomorrow. It's only a 125, but so much more fun than a 4 stroke.
Banished to the shower upon entry to the house, mind, but worth it:-)
Like my superleggera....a lot!
Aye, in my dreams!
OP, I do like but my idea of an ideal bike at the mo is a probably a single, plenty of suspension travel, sticky tyres, low weight and a propensity to pick the front end up at the drop of a hat. There was a Husaberg on gummie last week which fitted the bill, but we apparently have no room....
Yawn. 😆
Silly old farts
Give me a 916, R1 or a blade.
Enjoying listening to the opinions of people who wear Relentless hoodies

The Peg' came in a series of boxes, hopefully won't put me in one.
Where are the mirrors?
It's Italian so the following applies.
Yawn.Silly old farts

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against a 4 banger - but yer 2 stroke is far more organic and much more rewarding to ride. And decent pre-mix smells lush. 🙂
Terreblanche v Tamburini?
Loved the 999, but also loved the Paso and Morini Dart.
Massimo's designs have endured and have had much more influence, but the 888 and Supermono are pretty much perfect imo.
Taglioni the real hero.
The TT2 is still the best looking Duke ever.
No. The DB1 is the best looking "Ducati" ever...
🙂
I mean - look at them. So small and yet so perfectly formed..
(Like me)
At least you actually bought one.
The closest I got was begging Steve Wynne for a job in a Cheshire beer garden.
I do have a mate with money worries and an immaculate yellow 749 in his conservatory.
If only I hadn't lost my nerve....
🙂
Brilliant photo, one of the first things I remember seeing after signing up for this place.
Really captures an era.
😀
Let's see if I can post my first picture... 🙂
Edit - that's a no, then. 🙁
Some old bikes look cool, but unfortunately most just look dated, crap and fat now!
My blade is nearly ten years old but I still reckon it looks lovely,if a little snub nosed
Nice pics, good to see how designs and tastes have changed over the years. Whilst the new Duke looks too much racerboy for my liking I have to say it does look way more refined than the pics of Somas.. sorry.. but the old Dukes look really clunky and slightly awkward today.
But, google had my mind wondering and I found out that Fantic still make bikes (like, I remember them from the days of the old trials stuff) and this new Caballero looks blooming lovely.
Fantics look ace, right up until you realise they're a Chinese copy of 10 year old parts mostly. With little support/backup etc. I'd rather have a bad Japanese/Austrian dirt bike that's 5 years old than a new Fantic.
Really? Are they that bad?
I’m rather sad now.

Reviews and reliability/components etc seem 'mixed'
They're like the SWM Supermoto which is based upon an older model Husqvarna. They're both pretty, but i'm not sure i'd want one myself.
They're Carb'd not FI which depends on how you think of it, may be good or may be bad... But clearly considering FI came in in about 2000 roughly, it shows that Carbs are fairly old tech.
They're using their own home made suspension unit, whereas things like KTM are using the WP units.
The 250 Enduro is only 28bhp, whereas the KTM is a good 40+bhp instead.
It's a tricky one... but me, i'm not sold.
Looks cool, a bit Daryl from Walking Dead.
I'm just tidying up a 2007 Gas Gas EC 300 enduro bike for my lad, the power is going to be an eye opener for him!
I could never be described as Ducati fan, but was fortunate enough to go to EICMA this year and this V4 is a work of art. It appears smaller than the outgoing model, its about the size of an RS250. Even the MotoGP bike looks big in comparison!
It makes the RSV4 look dumpy and overweight and the jap stuff floundering.
Huh WTF happened to the picture in my original post it's disappeared!? Modded as a matter of taste maybe 😆
Rotary vs two stroke racing could be an interesting niche!
Under power they have a satisfying mechanical fury to them, sound like a strimmer idling though.
I love those scramblers, especially when fettled. 😀

So educate me here..
Those numberplate/light oil rigs that hang off the back... why do manufacturers sell bikes with them on and then sell another kit that replaces it and shuvs the number plate/light thing under the seat?
Why not just do that in the first place...
There are legal restrictions on light and number plate placement, so all new bikes are sold with them in the right place.
Aftermarket kits are available for "show" bikes 😉
I'm riding a lovely Hyperstrada at the mo.
Almost perfect except for the on/off clutch...which is spoiling the experience somewhat.
I love big twins, but not as much as two strokes...
Because the law says the bike has to be sold with all that stuff off the back. Same as your mountain bike needed reflectors and bell at point of sale.
I don't put mine on! 😀
Rare that you see bikes with the oil rig thingy still on once it’s out of the showroom 😆
Just seems a waste..
