I am heading out to Dublin shortly. Mrs FD will be working so I have 2 days to myself with car hire.
I am thinking walking/sightseeing rather than biking just because I wont be able to take kit with me.
Currently obviously thinking of a walk in the Wicklow Mountains, Glendalough was recommended on an old STW thread.
Are there any other nice walks / things I should be travelling out from Dublin to see?
Thanks
Spinc loop in Glendalough is nice. If you don't mind driving further, Coumshingan hike in Waterford - look online for info.
A walk up the Sugarloaf is a decent way to fill a half-day (at least a couple of hours). Park at or near Kilmacanogue GAA club and follow the well-worn path.
A walk along the coast between Dun Laoghaire and Dalkey used to be fairly nice. But it’s a long time since I’ve done that.
Also walking the harbour walls at Dun Laoghaire or the Great South Wall (the granite pier that sticks out into the sea for about a mile, at the mouth of the Liffey). Both are nice ways to kill a few hours.
If constipated, do the latter walk when a lightning storm is expected. Works instantly, I can vouch for that.
On yeah, take your trunks and go for a dip in the “The Forty Foot”!
Is the forum working again?!
Glendalough is cracking; take your swimmers and you can go for a dip in the lough itself too. The drive down there's cracking; make sure you go via Sally Gap, and depending where you are in Dublin you may go via Hellfire Club or Glencullen - there are some great roads and views. Also on the same trip, Roundwood stores in Roundwood is great for cake/ coffee/ sandwiches etc.
Forty Foot's good fun, as seen in Bad Sisters. Howth is well worth at least half a day - a range of great trails over the top and around the edges, plus great fresh seafood and pubs. If you're bored, the DART (train) down to Bray or Greystones is quite scenic. Takes about an hour - it's really slow - but the views are good and you can get coffee/ a pint at the Harbour Bar in Bray before heading back.
And Ballinastoe and Glencullen trail centres do have bike hire, if you simply have to get some biking in...
