I try to buy a helmet on ebay, but when I checkout the price has gone up
I dont understand whats happening there
Ive been hunting a welding helmet, the only place i can find it is on ebay, there are a few *different* sellers all based in cannock
So when I press buy at £38, it goes to checkout and the price is now £45.
It was the same yesterday
I messaged one seller but got no reply
How do they do this, and can i get them to honour the lower price?
Sounds like it might be VAT?
£38 + 20% = £45.60
maybe, but wouldnt it say something about that somewhere?
and other helmets have just the one price
I havent noticed VAT on ebay before
Link to item?
VAT isn’t charged on helmets.
P&P?
*edit, bike helmets, not sure about welding ones…
No link
Dafuq? That's a new one. Showing as £40.82 each, £48.99 when you check out.
It's VAT.
Definitely price + VAT
All the welding helmets I’ve ever bought have been + VAT
No vat to pay on a hard hat though
Looks like not a UK seller & VAT applied at check out? EDIT Confirmed: Member since: 22-Nov-18 in China
Also 11 negative/14 neutral feedback in 500 sales.
T&Cs state 7 day return (listing policy is 30 days).
I would avoid that seller personally
so two of their helmets are different prices, but the same at checkout
i suppose its just to look like they have the cheapest ones, waiting for fools like me to click pay without checking
but wouldnt it say something about that somewhere?
I would have thought so!
I'm sure I've seen a 'Taxes will be added to this price' or something similar in the panel on the right previously, but there's nothing on that listing??
Shyster.
Frankly the pricing inconsistency is the least of your worries - why would you buy a cheapo made-up brand auto darkening welding mask from some dodgy Chinese seller? - personally I don't have a spare set of eyes - I'd be erring on the side of re-assuringly expensive for something like that. Sold by someone who gives a shit. If you don't want to spend the money just get an old fashioned one from a reputable seller.

Looks more like a bug with how eBay display listings to me. Perhaps they're taking advantage of it - but normally eBay shows you the price you'll pay, even if they're doing the VAT instead of the seller.
