With this lovely spring/summer we're having our cellar has gone damp. Was having a sort out down there yesterday and spotted spores and brown dust on the backing board to the electric main isolator. It's doesn't seem to be anywhere else except that damp corner. I've hoovered up all visible spores and given the whole lot a going over with fungicide, but I'm geting the professionals in too. Is there anyone else worth calling instead of Peter Cox? (South Yorkshire, if it helps)
(I've also taken anything in the room that could be harbouring it to the tip, opened up the covers on the old coal chutes and am running a dehumidifier 24/7, the cheap hoover will be dumped too)
Should I ring the leccy board and ask them to come change the board, or wait for what Peter Cox guy says first?
It very likely isn't dry rot. If anything it's more likely to be wet rot which is far less serious, and really just means replace the affected timber and deal with any dampness (or isolate the new timber from it). Might be worth getting a view from Peter Cox, but take what they say with a mahoosive dollop of salt. Remember they are in the business of selling chemical treatments. You would get an impartial view fron a local Building Surveyor but check first that he is experienced in timber decay and what you would pay.
The leccy people might charge you on the basis that your dampness has damaged their board. Yes, they are that mean.
