I've got a drum kit that I just don't really have the space for so am thinking of selling it and buying a more compact kit. I rarely play it nowadays and it just taking up space in my sons bedroom. He plays a bit but nothing major so a smaller compact kit will be fine for the kids and my occasional use. We did have an electric kit for a while, which was good, but I still prefer a proper one.
Obviously ebay, but is there anywhere else good to sell a drum kit, I'm sure theres forums like this one but I've no idea.
Any help appreciated.
Reverb?
There’s a really active Facebook selling group if you’re on there.
Worst thing is there is some tasty gear comes up and reasonable prices, which is dangerous.
Ah not on facebook unfortunatey. Although my wife does have an account, I'll have a look.
will check out reverb as well, cheers.
Doesn't seem to be a lot on ebay for my kit, which suprised me a bit, not sure if thats a good thing or not but i'm well out of the game so wouldn't have a clue....
There used to be a fairly decent buy and sell as part of a UK drum forum but that's all closed now.
Most of the members migrated over to Facebook. I hate FB but ended up joining just to use this group:
IME it's the best one I've tried.
It also depends what your kit is. If it's an entry-level/no-name one then you may be better off on Gumtree etc. If it's a well-known brand though, a more specialist site like that can help shift it.
What is it?
Yes definitely will depend on the spec, kits done command much second hand unless there’s something special about it. Cymbals and cases on the other hand…
Its a 1998/9 (made in england) Premier XPK in cherry sunburst laquer. So mid range but a nice kit, very good condition as it's had a very easy life.

Nice, yep, that's definitely the sort of thing that would sell better on a more specialist group.
Agreed, might struggle to get £100 on eBay. Should double that easily on a specialist group
I got a flats lite kit for £50 of Facebook. It’s great, pain to set a pedal up but it’s great for practice, I can sling it in my car and carry the rest of the family too.
Would be good for home use, I used it at a gig too for a laugh and it was fine.
Was thinking of something like a Ludwig Breakbeats, Pearl Midtown or Tama club jam. just doesn't quite take up the same amount room and can easily be moved around if needed.
I had a Tama Club Jam recently - it sounded great.
It also packs away neatly! What I did was to buy some foam and then cut it so you could take the kick drum head off and 'nest' the rest of the drums inside - I managed the rack tom and snare inside the bass, and then the floor tom on top - all inside a single 18" case. With some lightweight hardware and a shoulder strap for the cymbal bag, I could carry the whole kit from the car in one journey.
Cool, thats good to know. I like the fact the Tama has the cymbal mount on the bass drum as well. More space saving goodness. The Ludwig looks like you might be able to mount a cymbal from the bit next to the rack tom mount as well.
See how I get on with flogging mine first...
I had one of those in black marble effect, I don't know why but Premier never seemed to be as in demand as Pearl or Yamaha despite being of similar quality.
Yeah Premier as a business wasn't the best, they went through a few different owners before closeing the door on the factory in Leicester, I got that kit when I worked there 99/2000. Yamaha even owned them at one point. Not sure they had the most fasionable drummers on the books in their later days either. They made some lovely kits though.
I had a battered old Premier kit that I got from a night club my step dad used to run, when I was a kid then played that in a band back in the early/mid 90's but that ended up in a skip when I got the one above. Although the band had long disapeared, and it never really got played in anger....
When I was a far keener drummer their marketing did seem to be entirely based on the fact they endorsed a couple of people 40+ years back.
Classic British brand downfall... Believing your hype from yesteryear is still relevant today.

Wow, dead impressed you used to work there. I was able to visit the factory just before it all went pear-shaped, had a good old nose through the museum and have a pic of me in 'the tower'! I even had a chat with them about lending my dad's kit for the museum - glad I didn't though!
I think the fashion point is a good one - in the 90's they had some of the top UK guys like Steve White, Chris Sharrock, Matt Helders etc but I wouldn't have a clue who they have on the roster now.
It was just a stop gap job in the warehouse while I was at college in the evenings, but it was great being a drummer and working there.
I helped make Oscar from Ocean Colour Scenes new kit. His was also cherry sunburst!
The best place to sell a drum kit is after a gig, so you don't have to lug the clutter home and can have a drink instead.
